Seven English clubs ban use of Vuvuzelas

London, Jul 21 (ANI): Seven English Premier League clubs have banned use of Vuvuzelas at their grounds in fear that they can be used as weapons.

Clubs fear the horns could injure fans or hit players if hurled on a pitch.

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham, Everton, Birmingham City, Fulham and Liverpool have outlawed them.

West Ham branded vuvuzelas an "annoyance", adding: "Under health and safety regulations they could be considered a weapon."

Spurs called them "unnecessary risks" which might drown out emergency announcements, The Sun reports.

Ray Foy, head of security at Everton, said: "It isn't a case of being killjoys. We've received many emails asking that we ban them, but none urging us to permit their use."

The use of horns got support from ex-Spurs captain Gary Mabbutt.

He said: "I'd prefer them to hearing 40,000 fans calling the referee a lot of names ending in 'r'." (ANI)

London, Jul 21 (ANI): All-rounder Andrew Flintoff, who has had two knee operations since helping England win the Ashes and hopes to make his long-awaited return from knee surgery, can be seen promoting Shell's new FuelSave Unleaded petrol.

He said: "I went 13 miles on a single litre... that's a few trips to the gym for free for me."

Flintoff was spotted at Beaconsfield motorway services on Tuesday as he helped promote Shell's new product.

Shell said it teamed up with the former England captain to "give drivers fuel efficient driving tips" and promote its new 'more efficient' fuel. (ANI)

Barmy Army should turn out for this year's Ashes: Ponting

Leeds (UK), July 21 (ANI): Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting has called on the Barmy Army to turn out in droves for this year's Ashes cricket series in Australia.

The five-Test series starts on November 25 in Brisbane.

"I have said for a long time even though they booed me at every opportunity last year, they are the best bunch of supporters that we play in front of for the fact they are so passionate about the game and they love supporting their own," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting, as saying.

"Whatever they generally do towards us is normally in a light-hearted manner. I think last time there was talk of being up to 50,000 Barmy Army supporters if you like," he added.

"We will see how this year pans out. It certainly adds to the contest I guess and I know the English guys love playing in front of their crowds and hopefully at some stage we can outnumber them with Australian fans," Ponting said.

"Let's hope that a great deal of English do come out to Australia and support what I think will be a great series," he added. (ANI)

Modi seeks recusal of Amin, Jaitley

Mumbai, July 21 -- Suspended Indian Premier League Commissioner Lalit Modi has made additional submissions seeking recusal of interim IPL chief Chirayu Amin and Arun Jaitley from the Disciplinary Committee constituted by the BCCI to conduct the proceedings against him. "Additional submissions on the issue of recusal as set out in the Disciplinary Committee meeting on July 16 in Mumbai have been filed late last night," said Modi's legal counsel Mehmood Abdi.

"The e-mail copies have also been marked to BCCI president Shashank Manohar and secretary N Srinivasan," said Abdi.

India risks follow-on as Murali claims wickets

Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan has taken three wickets to close in on being the first man to take 800 test wickets as India struggled to avoid the follow-on by lunch on the fourth day of the first test.

India needs 61 more runs to avoid the follow on, with tailenders Ishant Sharma and Pragyan Ojha batting.

Muralitharan, playing his final test, dismissed Sachin Tendulkar on Tuesday and added wickets of India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (33) and Yuvraj Singh (52) on Wednesday to return figures of 3-55.

Virender Sehwag struck an aggressive 109, his 20th test century, before being caught by Tharanga Paranavitana at slip off seamer Chanaka Welegedara.

Sehwag slams scintillating ton vs SL

New Delhi: After being put on the mat by the Sri Lankan batsmen as well as the bowlers, Team India was rescued from a precarious perch by Virender Sehwag, who once again, justified his place in the team with a scintillating century.

In the Test arena, Virender, nicknamed the Nawab of Najafgarh, is one of the most prolific batsmen in Test history.

However, he was out soon after scoring his ton, at 109.

His innings was a fiery one, as he notched up a run off almost every ball.

His departure left India on brink of collapse again with skipper MS Dhoni and the troubled Yuvraj Singh playing on 7 and 11 respectively.

The mostly dependable Laxman also was out in the twenties after playing himself in.

India's score was 190/5 in 42 overs.

The fact that India has scored so fast is entirely due to Sehwag, but other batsmen were caught in an ODI mental mode by the Sri Lankan bowlers.

If India lose even one more wicket the Lankans will get a chance to bowl at the tailenders.

India struggling at 260/8 against Sri Lanka

Galle (Sri Lanka) July 21 (IANS) India were 260 for eight in the first innings, in reply to Sri Lanka's 520 for eight declared, at lunch on the fourth day of the first cricket Test at the Galle International Stadium here Wednesday.

Pragyan Ojha was batting on one and Ishant Sharma was yet to open his account at the lunch break. Virender Sehwag was the top scorer with 109 while Yuvraj Singh made 52.
