Tiger Woods 'seeing different girls' a year after scandal

Published>Thu, Nov 25 10 08:08 PM

Washington, Nov 25 (ANI): It seems love-rat Tiger Woods is back to his old tricks a year after the infamous Thanksgiving weekend car wreck that ignited golfer's sex scandals.

"He's seeing different girls, creeping around in a low-key way," UsMagazine.com quoted a Woods insider as saying.

"I don't think you can call it 'dating.'"

The source continued that Woods is adding a grotto-style pool - like the one at the Playboy Mansion-to his 50 million dollars Jupiter, Fla. home.

He probably won't break it in over the next couple weeks, however. Says the insider, "The kids and his mom will join him for Thanksgiving."

His ex-wife Elin Nordegren, meanwhile, is "not dating, but is in great spirits," the source added. (ANI)

Kochi franchise informs IPL GC about inability to resolve ownership dispute

Published>Thu, Nov 25 10 07:08 PM

Bangalore, Nov.25 (ANI): The beleagured Kochi IPL franchise has reportedly written to the Governing Council of the Indian Premier League, expressing its inability to resolve the ownership issue.

Though the franchise owners have until this Saturday to resolve their differences, it has been learnt that the investors behind the franchise are pulling out of the venture.

The investors are also said to have informed the BCCI about their move, and this could effectively result in the Kochi franchise's expulsion from the league.

Should this widely expected move take place, Kochi would be the third IPL franchise after Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab to be expelled from the league.

The investors in the Kochi consortium - Anchor Earth, Parinee Developers, Rosy Blue and Film Wave -hold 74 per cent of the equity.

The remaining 26 percent has been given to the Gaikwad family and a few others.

Both these groups have had issues over ownership almost since Kochi won the bid to be part of the IPL.

The IPL's governing council, in its emergency meeting on October 27, had given the franchise a month to resolve the issue, saying that on its expiry, the franchise would be scrapped.

Kerala Cricket Association secretary T C Mathew, however, still remains optimistic about the future of the Kochi franchise.

Should the Kochi franchise be expelled, the IPL is expected to issue new tender inviting bids for the replacement at its governing council meeting in Mumbai on November 28. (ANI)

Asian Games hockey: India win bronze; Pakistan gold, Olympics berth

Published>Thu, Nov 25 10 06:52 PM

Guangzhou, Nov 25 (IANS) The Indian men's hockey team defeated four-time champions South Korea 1-0 to finish with a bronze at the Asian Games here Thursday.

Pakistan won the gold with a convincing 2-0 win over Malaysia in the final. They won the Asian Games title after 20 years, which also booked a berth for them in the 2012 London Olympics.

Malaysia, who were making their maiden appearance in an Asian Games final, had to settle for the silver. They have won the bronze medal six times.

After their disappointing loss to Malaysia in the semifinals, India had to contend with a third place finish.

India's only goal in the bronze medal match came through Tushar Khandekar in the 40th minute. The defence, which let the team down in the semifinals, played with resolve to hold onto the lead till the end at the Aoti hockey field here.

India, who last finished on the podium with a silver at the 2002 Busan Games, got their act together as they gave a tough challenge to the nimble-footed Koreans.

After a goalless first half, India stepped up the pace in the second half with a flurry of attacking moves.

Indian goalkeeper Bharat Chetri made some smart saves. South Korea, who won gold in 2002 and 2006, got two penalty corners in the first half and one in the second but Chetri stood solid.

India also got two penalty corners but failed to score.

India's Spanish coach Jose Brasa said the bronze medal was not a real measure of the team's talent.

'I think we were the best side in the competition, winning five of our six matches. I can't say I am happy, but at least the boys will not return home empty-handed,' said Brasa, whose contract was till the Asian Games.

In the gold medal match, veteran Sohail Abbas put Pakistan ahead with his team's first penalty corner in the 26th minute. Striker Rehan Butt increased the lead three minutes after the half-time.

Pakistan won their eighth Asiad hockey gold - the last one came way back in Beijing in 1990. It was also their first major title since winning the 1994 World Cup in Sydney.

Wild celebrations broke out in the Pakistan camp on the sound of the final hooter. It was a surprise turnaround for the team, which began the year with an embarassing 12th place finish in the World Cup in March in India and took sixth place at the Commonwealth Games in October.

The players lifted Dutch coach Michel van den Heuvel, who masterminded this change since taking over after the World Cup, over their shoulders amid loud cheers from the sizeable crowd.
