Ai Miyazato has become Japan's first world number one golfer after taking over at the top of the women's game.
She replaced South Korea's Jiyai Shin after winning her fourth LPGA Tour title in New Jersey at the weekend.
"When I started playing in the States that's when I really started thinking about being number one," Miyazato told the tour website (www.lpga.com).
"That became a dream of mine, especially watching (Swede) Annika (Sorenstam) and (Mexican) Lorena (Ochoa) play, and now I am number one I still can't believe it."
Miyazato, who turned 25 on Saturday, has also won in Thailand, Singapore and Mexico this year after claiming her maiden LPGA win in France in 2009.
