Man U's young players are ready to shine, says Giggs

London, Aug 1 (ANI): Defending Sir Alex Ferguson for not spending money on players after missing out on the Premier League title last season, Ryan Giggs said Manchester United's latest group of young players are ready to shine.

Ferguson has been accused of allowing his squad to grow old together after it was revealed that they could name a first choice XI with an average age of 32.

Giggs believes United's more under-stated signings like Mexican striker Javier Hernandez and teenage Fulham defender Chris Smalling will come to the fore this year.

"We've got the talent but we're not getting too excited just yet. We've still to find out whether they have the mental character to play for Manchester United," News of the World quoted Giggs, as saying.

"They've shown on the tour exactly what kind of ability they have. Those lads have set a standard individually and they will need to keep to that. And I think they will. Their attitude is right, they train the right way and prepare correctly and we're pleased with where we are," he said.

"I don't think we need any kind of marquee signing at the moment. The quality of player we have is very good and we have others to come back. We also have young players who have come back from spells out on loan stronger and fitter," Giggs added. (ANI)
