Sydney, Sep 16(ANI): Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) chief executive, Mike Hooper, insists that unprecedented security would ensure a safe Delhi Commonwealth Games.
In spite of widespread concerns in the build-up to the October 3-14 Games, Hooper said: "I honestly do, hand on heart, believe that we will have a safe and secure environment in and around the Games venues."
"From everything I have known from living here for three years, coming here for seven years, there is certainly no diminution of the commitment given by the government of India, the Delhi government and Delhi police to deliver a safe and secure environment," he added.
Hooper further said that a four-layered security operation would be carried out during the Games to give paramount importance to the safety of athletes and spectators
"Security is of paramount importance and we cannot compromise and I don't believe anyone is compromising," The News quoted Hooper, as saying.
Earlier, the Australian Government had warned of a high risk of a terrorist attack during the Games in New Delhi, while several New Zealand sports bodies had threatened to pull out citing security concerns. (ANI)
