Karachi, July 24(ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan has said that wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal's 'impressive batting' is the reason why he continues to be selected in the Test squad despite serious keeping problems.
"The first reason is his impressive batting in comparison to other keepers in the domestic circuit. Yes, his keeping has been poor over the past little while, but it has to be remembered that his keeping is improving. In the recent matches that were played, he did extremely well behind the stumps and barely had any mistakes," PakPassion.net quoted Khan, as saying.
"However, the selectors have constantly kept tabs on his performances and he is not getting a free leash. He knows that if his performances continue to dip - he will be dropped immediately," he added.
Khan further admitted that the board is searching for talented and upcoming keepers.
"Backups are not only reserved for keepers of course. The selectors are constantly making sure that there are efficient backups for each and every first choice player because problems can arise at any time," he added.
Kamran has been constantly criticized for his poor wicket keeping by former cricketers and selectors.
He is infamous for the horrendous second test against Australia in Sydney earlier this year, where he dropped four catches, including three chances from Michael Hussey.
Hussey went on to score a match winning century, with the Pakistan team losing in a shock result after dominating the first three days of play.
Kamran was subsequently dropped for the third test, being replaced by Sarfraz Ahmed. (ANI)
