New Delhi, March 16 (IANS) I-League club Dempo has released Indian striker Sunil Chettri for his US Major League Soccer (MLS) debut with Kansas City Wizard.

The Delhi boy is now the second Indian after national captain Baichung Bhutia to play in overseas leagues.

While Chettri is keeping a mum on his new stint, Dempo officials said they have released the striker.

'We wish him best of luck. It is a great moment for Indian football,' said a club official.

Chetti appeared for trials at Kansas City earlier this month and also turned out in a match for them against Columbus Crew. He is likely to sign a contract later this month and be part of the team in the forthcoming MLS season that starts next month.

Last year Chetri failed to impress English Championship side Coventry City and was also denied a work permit to join another Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers because of India's low FIFA ranking.
