Rana''s hearing adjourned; asked to approach PCB for leniency

Lahore, Jun 19 (PTI) PCB-appointed appeals'' commissioner Justice Irfan Qadir today adjourned Rana Naved''s hearing to June 26 and had asked the banned all-rounder to approach the board for a review of his 12-month suspension and fine imposed on him for indiscipline during this year''s Australia tour. PCB legal advisor Talib Rizvi confirmed that Justice Qadir, who was looking into the appeals of the players banned or fined in March, had told Rana he should approach the board and ask them to review the penalties imposed on him. "Since the board has reviewed the bans and fines on the other players as well, the appeal''s commissioner said Rana''s case can also be reconsidered by the board," Rizvi said. Rizvi explained that other players have also approached PCB chairman Ejaz Butt for a reconsideration of their sanctions and the appeal''s commissioner lifting the sanctions on his recommendation. "That is why Rana has been told to approach the PCB chairman. He has been given one week to see if the board reconsiders his case as well," Rizvi said. "The board didn''t come under any political pressure. The PCB chairman had asked for the removal of their bans because he believes the players have learnt their lessons and have assured they will not indulge in indiscipline again," he added. Rana, who came all the way from England to attend today''s hearing at the National Cricket Academy here, remained confident of getting due justice after the appeal''s commissioner had adjourned the hearing to next week. "When the other players have had their sanctions removed, I am sure the board will also reconsider my ban and fine because I want to play for Pakistan again," he said. PCB had imposed an indefinite ban on former captains Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan and 12-month bans and fine of two million rupees each on Shoaib Malik and Rana besides penalising Shahid Afridi, Kamran and Umar Akmal for their wrong-doings in Australia. However, recently the appeal''s commissioner had removed Malik and Younis'' ban and also reduced the fines of three million and two million rupees each on the Akmal brothers, Besides, the PCB chief himself had removed the three million rupees fine on Afridi, who has now been made the national team captain for all three formats of the game.
