Mumbai sets up title clash with Punjab

Chennai, Aug 27 (PTI) Sushant Marathe and Kaushtab Pawar slammed unbeaten centuries to help Mumbai score a nine-wicket win over Karnataka and set up a title clash with Punjab in the Buchi Babu Memorial Cricket tournament here today. Marathe hit 141 (230 b, 7x4, 5x6), while Pawar cracked 101 (10x4, 2x6). Chasing 266 in 90 overs, opener Marathe and Pawar proved to be a bundle of confidence as they achieved the target in just 80.3 overs. The two added 243 runs in 71.2 overs for the unfinished second wicket. In another match, Punjab, who made 257 for nine yesterday, managed to inflict a 53-run defeat over Kerala, thanks to a superb display by leg spinner Rahul Sharma, who claimed six for 58 (23.3-5-58-6). For Kerala, Sambasiva Sharma (33) and Rohan Prem (39) put on 72 runs in 29.2 overs for the second wicket and Rizwan (39) and Sunil Thomas (45) made 69 runs between them for the eighth wicket. After a day''s rest tomorrow, Mumabi and Punjab will clash in the final on Aug 29. Brief scores: Karnataka 265/9 in 90 overs lost to Mumbai 266/1 in 80.3 overs (Sushant Marathe 141 not out, Kaustab Pawar 101 not out) and Punjab 257/9 IN 90 overs beat Kerala 204 all out in 79.3 Overs (Sambasiva Sharma 33, Rohan Prem 39 Rizwan 39, Sunil Thomas 45, Bharat Loomba 2/34 and Rahul Sharma 6/58).
