Ranchi, Oct 10 (PTI) Little did Deepika Kumari''s mother know that her daughter''s penchant for aiming at the mangoes hanging in the trees would one day fetch her gold and glory in archery. Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda has announced Rs 10 lakh cash award for Deepika''s individual twin gold medal feat. Thrilled at Deepika''s success in the Commonwealth Games, parents Gita and Shiv Charan Mahato said she would hurl stones at the hanging mangoes. "Right from her school days, Deepika is fond of target practising, and used to hurl stones at mangoes," her mother Gita said. "Today, we are very happy for her contribution in the team event at the Games," she told reporters. Reigning cadet world champion and World Cup Stage 4 silver medallist, Deepika won the women''s recurve individual and team gold medals at the archery competition of the Games. It was in Munda''s Arjun Archery Academy at Sareikela-Kharsawan where Deepika started her career in 2005 before moving to Tata Archery Academy (TAA). Munda congratulated Deepika and wished her all the best for her next individual event.
