Chandigarh, Oct 10 (IANS) 'Surprised and saddened' Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) Sunday said that it was seeking legal options to its ouster from the multi-million rupee cricketing league by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
A statement from the franchise, issued by its public relations consultancy said: 'KXIP is surprised and saddened by the recent action of the BCCI. KXIP has been a loyal franchisee since the inception of the IPL, at a time when there was no guarantee or visibility of the leagues' success.'
The KXIP franchise is jointly owned by industrialist Ness Wadia, his ex-girlfriend and Bollywood actress Priety Zinta and two other businessmen.
The team has the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Brett Lee, Kumar Sangakkara and Irfan Pathan in its ranks.
'In the recent past, KXIP has fully cooperated with all government and regulatory authorities as well as the BCCI in assisting them with their questions. KXIP reiterates that the company has followed all terms and conditions and has not violated any agreement.
'KXIP strongly believes that this decision is unfair and not in the collaborative spirit which the IPL has operated in. Kings XI hopes that the BCCI will engage in a productive dialogue to resolve all misunderstandings.'
The statement said that it was getting the issue legally examined before contemplating the next course of action.
'KXIP has today (Sunday) received the formal communication from the BCCI which is now being studied by our legal team. We look forward to presenting the facts and answering any misunderstandings that the BCCI may have.'
The BCCI Sunday announced the scrapping of the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab teams from the IPL for violating franchisee conditions, especially on ownership.
The BCCI decision means that both teams will not be able to play in IPL Season-4 next year.
Rajasthan Royals, which has London-based billionaire Raj Kundra and his wife and Bollywood celebrity Shipla Shetty as co-owners, had won the IPL season-1.
