Krishna Poonia rewarded with Rs 15 lakh by Raj. govt

Jaipur, Oct 15 (PTI) Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today felicitated Krishna Poonia for making India proud by winning the gold in discus throwing at the Commonwealth Games, won by an Indian in athletics after 52 years. Apart from the cash reward, Gehlot also announced other rewards for Poonia from the state government - posting as Deputy SP in Rajasthan Police Service, allotment of free MIG ''B'' house and Rs 5 lakh additional amount for preparation for the 2012 Olympics to be held in London. Her husband and coach Virendra Poonia has also been awarded Rs 7.5 lakh in cash. The couple will be able to travel for free in Rajasthan Roadways buses, Gehlot announced at a function organised to honour the Jaipur girl who won the CWG gold in discus throwing on Monday. The state government had earlier announced free allotment of 25 bigha land in IGNP region to players from the state who would win medals in Olympics, Asian Games and CWG games and allotment of 25 bigha of land on reserve price for those athletes who would represent the state in these games.
