Pune won three of the six individual titles at stake on the concluding day of the School State Badminton Championship 2010, held under the auspices of the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Maharashtra, at the Shiv Chhatrapathi Sports Complex, Balewadi here on Monday.
In the under-19 age group, Sudhanshu Medsikar (boys) and Kalyani Limaye (girls) topped, while Revati Devasthale added the girls under-17 crown to round off an eventful day after Mumbai held centrestage in the team event.
The day began with Revati, a Bharati Vidyabhavan's Sulochana Natu Vidyamandir, Pune student, defeating Radhika Joshi (Bal Shikshan Eng. Medium School) 17-21, 22-20, 21-12 for the under-17 title. Later, Kalyani Limaye of SP College easily defeated BMCC lass Shruti Mundada 21-6 after the later conceded the match.
The third title came when Sudhanshu, a KJ Gupta Junior College, Chinchwad student, played out a thrilling encounter against his own city rival Varun Sarode of Fergusson College 18-21, 21-16, 21-18. Two titles went to Mumbai after Kaushal Dharmameher (girls under-17) and Karishma Wadkar (girls Under-14) won their age groups, while Nagpur's Vaibhav Bisane won the boys under-14 title.
