Margao, Nov 1 (PTI) An all-round performance by Bharat Shankar propelled Tamil Nadu to a fluent 64-run victory over Andhra Pradesh which put them on top of the table in the final encounter of the South Zone U-19 Vinu Mankad limited overs tournament here today. Bharat Shankar returned with a three-wicket haul and starred in a 106-run opening parnership with D Ganga Raju to help Tamil Nadu, who finished their league engagement, top the South Zone Group with 23 points and thus qualify for the knock out stage. Electing to bat, Tamil Nadu put up a modest score of 223 for 7 in the allotted 50 overs. Tamil Nadu got off to a bright start with openers D Ganga Raju and Bharat Shankar putting on 106 for the first wicket stand before the former was out for 46. Thereafter two quick wickets fell in quick succession before Bharat Shankar who hit four boundaries for his 86 found an able partner in Indrajit (54). The duo added 63 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. P Snehasis was the most successful bowler for Andhra claiming three wickets. Simran took two wickets while Shamsunder and Vinodkumar shared one wicket each. Chasing 224 to win, nothing went right for Andhra as they lost wickets at regular interval to be all out for a paltry 159 in 44.3 overs. G Charan top-scored with 36 runs and put up a stiff resistance along with M Basha (33), Vinod Kumar(29) and A Basha (23) but it was not enough in the end. Bharat Shankar who took three wickets for 33 runs was the most successful bowler for Tamil Nadu. .
