PCB not to renew Jaffer''s contract as national selector

Karachi, Jul 31 (PTI) Miffed with his behaviour, the Pakistan Cricket Board has decided against renewing the contract of former Test pacer Salim Jaffer as a national selection committee member. The PCB, apparently unhappy with his behaviour, has sent a letter informing him that his services were no longer required as a member of the selection committee after his contract expires today. "The order to release Jaffer as national selector has come directly from the board Chairman Ijaz Butt who was not happy with his behavior in recent times," a source in the board said. Jaffer upset the PCB Chairman and chief selector, Mohsin Khan last month when the touring squad for England was announced from Sri Lanka. Only Mohsin went to attend the meeting with the team captain Shahid Afridi, coach Waqar Younis, manager Yawar Saeed. Ijaz Butt also attended the meeting. Sources said after the touring squad was announced Jaffer had complained to a member of the PCB governing council that the other selectors were not consulted while finalising the squad. "Butt took offence to this as Mohsin''s claim was that he was in touch with his fellow selectors over the composition of the squad and had consulted them all the time," one source stated. When contacted, Mohsin again said that he had consulted his fellow selectors and if anyone was saying otherwise he was wrong. "Before going to Sri Lanka and throughout the meeting I consulted the selectors and informed them and took their view point. But in the end my argument was that since the captain runs the team his viewpoint must be given weight," Mohsin said. Jaffer has served as a member of the selection committee since 2007.
