Sabade to lead Indian rugby team for Asian 7's tourney

Mumbai, July 20 (IANS) A 12-member Rugby India team, led by Avani Sabade, will leave Wednesday for the Asian Women's 7s tournament in Guangzhou, China.

The tournament July 24-25 is a test event for the Asian Games in November.

'The team is confident of playing well and doing the country proud. We have gone through practice sessions at Balewadi stadium and are set to give a tough challenge to the opponents,' Sabade said.

Surabhi Date, Vahbiz Bharucha, Niharika Dal, Gayatri Salunke, Neha Pardeshi, Ketaki Khare, Tapsi Nandi, Sutapa Das, Priyanka Mandal, Kalpana Das and Sangeeta Bera are other members of the team.

They will be accompanied by coach Usaia Buimuiwai, manager Leena Bal and physio Jyoti Purohit.

Apart from India, thirteen other international teams will compete in the tournament including China, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
