Sabade to lead Rugby team in Asian Womens 7s

Mumbai, July 20 (PTI) Skipper Avani Sabade will lead a 12-member Indian Rugby team to participate in the prestigious Asian Women''s 7s Tournament in Guangzhou, China that gets underway on Saturday. The Indian eves will leave for China tomorrow to take part in the two-day event which will see the participation of thirteen other international teams. India will face tough opposition from some of the top teams in the world like China, Thailand, Phillipines, Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore in the tournament, which is a Test Event for the upcoming Asian Games in November. The team consists of Sabade, Surabhi Date, Vahbiz Bharucha, Niharika Dal, Gayatri Salunke, Neha Pardeshi, Ketaki Khare, Tapsi Nandi, Sutapa Das, Priyanka Mandal, Kalpana Das and Sangeeta Bera. "It is a great honour to lead the national women''s rugby team again. It is a huge privilege for the team to represent India at such a prestigious tournament. The team is confident of playing well and doing the country proud. We have gone through practice sessions at Balewadi stadium and are set to give a tough challenge to the opponents," Sabade said. Thirty participants were shortlisted from the top performers at the All India Inter Club Rugby7s here in June. PTI ATK
