New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) The English squash team, which is one of the strongest contingents at the Commonwealth Games here, will be looking forward to snaring maximum medals at the October 3-14 event. Daryl Paul Selby, a member of the English team said, the ranking and quality of players would definitely help England''s squad return with a lot of medals, most of them gold, from the squash events at the Siri Fort Sports complex. "We have been working very hard for singles as well as doubles. In singles we occupy all the top four seeded positions and in doubles we occupy first and third seeds," Selby said. "But make no mistake, we''ll have to work hard as squash is a very tough sport. Australia and Malaysia are tough competition, while India and Pakistan also have good individual players," Selby added. The Englishman also gave a thumbs-up to the athletes'' Village, which was a few days back dubbed "filthy and unlivable" by foreign delegates. "The Games Village is indeed very impressive, especially the International Zone. Since we have arrived, we have been treated to some of the best facilities ever in terms of dining and accommodation. "The food here is fantastic and of very high quality, that''s what an athlete needs," Selby said. Asked about the negative media coverage of the Delhi Games in England, Selby said that the media there had shown both the good and the bad. "As professional athletes, we do not carry an impression anywhere. Our team manager was here before us and he told us that most of the things were done while some minor things remained. He said it was a brilliant place and a world-class facility." The player said that the team always practices together and goes through different routines. "We also practice in different conditions to acclimatise us to all sorts of situations. There are two practice sessions, of a couple of hours each. These include court as well conditioning and stretching exercises," Selby said. PTI SHN
