American world indoor sprint favourite Ivory Williams has withdrawn from this weekend's IAAF championships citing personal reasons, a team spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

"He is not in Doha and has withdrawn for personal reasons," USA Track & Field spokeswoman Vicky Oddi told Reuters.

She would not elaborate on why Williams had pulled out of the championships, which begin on Friday.

The 24-year-old former world junior champion ran the fastest 60 metres time in the world this season, 6.49 seconds, to win the American indoor championships on Feb. 28.

He had been expected to clash with British European champion Dwain Chambers for the world title.
