Women Lawn Bowls team in semis

Published>Sat, Apr 10 10 12:20 PM

New Delhi, April 9 -- The penultimate day of the 8-Nation Invitational Lawn Bowls event being held here saw mixed results for the young and promising Indian teams. The brand new facility at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is in complete contrast to the mess that the rest of the stadium is in, and at this top-class venue, the Indian women's team put in an exceptional effort. Competing in the singles, pairs and triples categories, the women are one win away from playing the gold medal match in both the Triples and the Pairs. The Triples team, comprising Rupa Rani Tirkey, Tanya Chaudhry and Delhi's Pinki Kaushik, will face England in the semifinal, and according to the experts, have a real shot at the gold. Pinki said after the game, "We hope Delhi will support and pray for us, so we can beat the best in the world and win gold for India." In the exciting playoff for a semifinal berth, India women beat a strong Malaysia 11-7, 3-16 via the tie-breaker. They will face South Africa on Saturday. The only disappointment for the women was the narrow loss for Farzana Khan in the singles, but she is rated highly by her opponents and is billed as one to watch out for. Represented by Mohammad Raja in Singles, Mahip Tirkey and Sunil in Pairs and R Gogoi, Chandan Singh and Dinesh Kumar in Triples, the men unfortunately faced much tougher competition.

RCB need to win 3 out of 4 games to stay in hunt

Published>Sat, Apr 10 10 11:58 AM

Bangalore, April 9 -- As is so often the case when the Prince of Kolkata is involved, all talk leading up to a match involves him. In the latest instance, the talking point is Sourav Ganguly's right ankle, which he twisted while in the middle of leading the Kolkata Knight Riders' latest renaissance. As of late on Friday evening, the news was that Ganguly was good to play, and the opposition were taking no chances. "We'll prepare as though he's going to play. He's a key player and at this stage, I think he'll play," said Rahul Dravid, who has known Ganguly for the best part of two decades. Ganguly took active part in KKR's training session, in which another important player, left-arm spinner Murali Kartik, also went through the paces while still recovering from a groin niggle. For the Bangalore team, though, the challenge ahead is a slightly different one. After a roaring start to the tournament, they find themselves in a situation where they need to win at least three of their last four matches. If the early part of the tournament was spent trying to garner momentum and string together a sequence of wins, the back half could become all about mastering familiar circumstances. The advantage for the Royal Challengers is that they've been in exactly the same situation in past editions of the IPL. If the good times are spent bringing teams together, it is adversity that shows just how united a team is. "This tournament is only six-seven weeks, but the bonds that you form grow through the year," explained Dravid. "You obviously talk about cricket with guys who have played at the highest level. But the important thing is the moments you share, happy events and the disappointments, like yesterday. We should have defended 184 and when we lost, every individual in the dressing room felt bad. Irrespective of the nationality, the disappointment was the same."

With every ticket in the house sold well in advance, and two teams desperate for a win that will help point them to the semis, there's no shortage of needle in this contest.

Essex Police launched an investigation after being handed a video, which led to Ted's arrest. t is alleged the deal took place in the toilets of the Unit 4 wine bar in Chafford Hundred - yards from Ted's modern terraced home.

Tiger on tail of leaders Poulter and Westwood

Tiger Woods of the U.S. tips his hat to the crowd after finishing his round...

Published>Sat, Apr 10 10 08:10 AM

Tiger Woods returned to familiar territory in typically gritty fashion at the U.S. Masters on Friday, surging ominously into contention with two back-nine birdies in the second round at Augusta National.

Looking composed at one of his favourite venues and showing no hint of rust in his first tournament for nearly five months, the world number one ground out a two-under-par 70 to end a difficult day of scoring just two shots off the lead.

Engaging with the Augusta fans at every opportunity in glorious spring sunshine, Woods rolled in a 20-foot putt at the 13th before sinking a 12-footer at the 15th on the way to a six-under total of 138.

The four-times champion, whose troubled private life appears to have had no effect on his golf, will go into Saturday's third round headed only by British pacesetters Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood.

Poulter fired a five-birdie 68, his only blemish coming at the last where he missed a seven-foot par putt, while Westwood briefly got to 10-under before losing momentum over the closing stretch for a 69.

"It feels good to be back and in contention," Woods told reporters after finishing level with playing partner KJ Choi of South Korea (71) and Americans Phil Mickelson (71), Anthony Kim (70) and Ricky Barnes (70).

"I usually put myself in contention most years here and this year I'm right there. We've got 36 more holes and I'm sure the golf course, they are not going to make it easy for us."

Poulter, who won his first PGA Tour title at the elite WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in February, was delighted to share the 36-hole lead in the year's opening major.

"This is a nice position to be in and obviously winning a couple of months back is a huge factor in playing well this week," said the English world number seven, who, like Westwood, had never previously led after a major round.

"I'm in a position now where I can go out and be aggressive on the golf course. But it's only Friday so I don't want to get carried away."

Westwood, winner of last year's Dubai World Championship and the European order of merit, believes his time has come after a couple of close calls in majors during 2008 and 2009.

"It's the only thing really missing in my career," said the world number four, whose roller-coaster round included an eagle at the second and a double-bogey at the tricky 14th.

FINISHING OFF

"I've won everywhere around the world and money lists and here in the States. I know I've got the game and I know I've got the temperament. It's just going that one step further and finishing it off.

Woods, again watched by huge galleries on his highly anticipated return to competition, offset a birdie at the second with a bogey at the par-three fourth to reach the turn in level-par 36.

Wearing a green shirt, black sweater and black trousers, the American frequently tipped his cap to acknowledge the cheers from the crowd as he clawed his way into contention.

Unusually, he wore sunglasses in between every shot due to the glare and high pollen count.

"The pollen is just killing my eyes," he said. "I've been sneezing and hacking all week so I'm trying to keep it out of my eyes the best I can."

Woods was again in crowd-pleasing mode, having promised on Monday to give more respect to the game and the fans following startling revelations about his extra-marital affairs at the end of last year.

After teeing off at the par-three sixth he spotted a young boy wearing a baseball cap with 'TW' emblazoned on the front and he put a huge grin on the youngster's face by giving him a friendly hand slap as he walked by.

Having negotiated the first 12 holes in even par, he surged up the leaderboard amid roars of 'Go Tiger' with his birdies at 13 and 15, the first of them prompting him to raise his putter skywards in celebration.

Woods, who was watched for the second day in a row by his Thai mother Kultida but not his Swedish wife, is bidding to become the first player to launch his season with a major victory since Ben Hogan clinched the 1953 Masters.

Tricky pin positions, quickening greens and Augusta's notorious swirling winds posed continual problems for the field in the second round. The day's average score of 74.512 was almost 1.5 shots higher than Thursday.

While 16 players broke 70 in the opening round, that number dropped to just three on Friday when the cut fell at three-over 147. Former major winners Padraig Harrington and Stewart Cink were among those missing out.

"I'm in a position now where I can go out and be aggressive on the golf course. But it's only Friday so I don't want to get carried away."

Again watched by huge galleries on his highly anticipated return to competition after a self-imposed break, Woods recorded his first birdie at the par-five second where he chipped in from just off the green to three feet.

ACKNOWLEDGED CHEERS

Wearing a green shirt, black sweater and black trousers, the American tipped his cap to acknowledge the cheers from the crowd packed around the second green.

Woods, who wore sunglasses in between every shot due to the glare and high pollen count, stumbled at the par-three fourth where he pulled his iron shot well left after twice changing clubs on the tee.

From behind the left greenside bunker he hit a lob wedge to 10 feet but missed the par putt to slip back to four under overall.

Woods failed to birdie the par-five eighth, which he had eagled the previous day, his wedge approach screwing back 75 feet from the pin and he did well to two-putt from there for par.

Out in level-par 36, he surged up the leaderboard with his birdies at 13 and 15, the first of them prompting him to raise his putter skywards in celebration.

Woods, who was watched for the second day in a row by his Thai mother Kultida, is bidding to become the first player to launch his season with a major victory since fellow American Ben Hogan clinched the 1953 Masters.

Tricky pin positions, quickening greens and Augusta's notorious swirling winds posed continual problems for the field. The day's average score of 74.512 was almost 1.5 shots higher than on Thursday.

Woods tames crowd and course as charm offensive continues

Tiger Woods of the U.S. is applauded as he walks off the 18th green during...

Published>Sat, Apr 10 10 06:28 AM

Tiger Woods was confronted with a tougher crowd and more challenging conditions during the second round of the U.S. Masters on Friday but tamed both to remain in the chase for a fifth Green Jacket.

Playing his first event in nearly five months after admitting to a string of extra-marital affairs, Woods's game and popularity continued on an upward arc as he surged into contention with a two-under 70 to finish just two strokes behind British co-leaders Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter.

Swirling, gusty winds added bite to the Augusta National layout but did not faze Woods, whose exceptional play through two rounds to be on target for an unlikely 15th major has surprised many, but not himself.

"I felt that I could put myself in contention," Woods told reporters. "I usually put myself in contention most of the time most years here and this year I'm right there."

"We got 36 more holes and I'm sure the golf course, they are not going to make it easy for us.

"They made it easy on the first day for us and today was certainly much more difficult."

After a rousing welcome back in the opening round, Woods received a more subdued reception when he stepped onto the first tee for round two.

But by the time the American marched up the 18th fairway bathed in brilliant sunshine, the galleries were squarely back in his corner breaking into loud applause and shouts of "Go Tiger".

Woods's charm offensive continued as he worked his way around the course, tipping his hat to the cheers and passing out plenty of "thank you's".

After teeing off at the par-three sixth, he spotted a young boy wearing a baseball cap with 'TW' emblazoned on the front and put a huge grin on the youngster's face by giving him a friendly hand slap as he walked by. On the 13th, he handed a golf glove to another fan.

Woods did not have to endure any of the humiliating distractions he faced on Thursday when a small plane towing banners lampooning his scandalous affairs buzzed the golf course.

Despite the warm welcome back, the 34-year-old has much more work ahead of him and may be more likely to win another major before winning back disillusioned fans and sponsors.

He has spent Masters week determined to push the spotlight away from his philandering to his play and appeared to be winning that battle. Every question asked in his post-round interview focused on exploits on the course rather than in the tabloids.

"I felt more comfortable (today) because I was hitting the ball better and I was putting better, even though I didn't shoot as low a score," said Woods. "I think that's a factor of the conditions.

"But I feel like I have more control of the golf ball today from tee to green and I hit putts right on my lines.

"That's something I wasn't doing yesterday."

Late stunner hands Harrison European heavyweight title

Published>Sat, Apr 10 10 05:34 AM

Audley Harrison staggered out of boxing's last chance saloon as European heavyweight champion and reborn contender on Friday after a last-round knockout of fellow Briton Michael Sprott for the vacant title.

Well behind on all three scorecards and seemingly heading for career oblivion 10 years on from his super-heavyweight gold medal at the Sydney Olympics, the 38-year-old sent his opponent crashing to the canvas with a lethal left.

Sprott, a 35-year-old former British and Commonwealth champion who had beaten Harrison in 2007, was given an oxygen mask before recovering enough to sag in his corner at London's Alexandra Palace.

"It feels absolutely great," said Harrison, who fought southpaw from the second of the 12 rounds after locking his shoulder and has won 27 fights with four defeats.

"I just had to switch and I was ineffective on that side because I never trained on that side, never fought on that side, but I said losing wasn't an option. I had to find it some way, somehow," he told Sky television.

"That shows how much I wanted to be European champion, I wanted to keep my career," added Harrison, who had said before the fight that victory could put him closer to a world title fight against one of the Ukrainian Klitschko brothers than Britain's WBA world champion David Haye.

Derided as 'Fraudley' and 'Audrey' in the past for limp-wristed and lacklustre performances, the towering Harrison was booed at times by a crowd clearly behind his plucky opponent.

He may have the last laugh however, with his new-won status reviving his faint hopes of a world title shot at a time when retirement seemed his more likely destination.

"I definitely proved that I want to remain in boxing," he said.

"With one hand really I found a shot that made me a European champion, gave me a top 10 rating in the WBC."

Six six six represents a devil of a start as Lyle hits 86

Sandy Lyle of Scotland hits from the second tee during first round play in the...

Published>Sat, Apr 10 10 04:08 AM

A day after charging into contention at the U.S. Masters, former champion Sandy Lyle endured a nightmare second round as he toiled to a 14-over-par 86 on Friday.

The 52-year-old Briton, who won the cherished Green Jacket at Augusta National in 1988, started with three successive sixes on a difficult day for scoring.

"I never got it going at all," Lyle told reporters after covering the front nine in an ugly 10-over 46. "I was just very bad ... I lost rhythm completely."

Gusting winds and quickening greens did not help Lyle's cause after he had ended the opening round just three strokes off the lead following a five-birdie 69.

"It's probably about as bad as yesterday was good," the Scot said after posting an 11-over total of 155.

"There's a lot more wind and the greens I think are a bit quicker in places so it's a little scary."

Lyle's triple-bogey six at the 12th epitomised his struggles after he took two shots to escape a greenside bunker.

"I had a whack at it and only moved the ball about an inch," he said. "Another whack and it went flying across into the water so that sums the day up.

"Everything gets magnified out here on the greens. You just keep missing the greens in the wrong place and you have to take gambles. It was just tough, very, very tough."

Stricken Pompey appoint FA accountant as chief executive

Published>Sat, Apr 10 10 03:48 AM

Portsmouth, in administration and on the brink of relegation from the Premier League, appointed the FA's head of football integrity and financial regulation as their new chief executive on Friday.

Administrator Andrew Andronikou told Reuters the arrival of David Lampitt, a qualified accountant and member of UEFA's club licensing committee, showed Portsmouth could have a strong future.

"It demonstrates that we are building for the future. The calibre of the person coming in shows what we are trying to create at Pompey," he said.

Portsmouth said Lampitt, 35, would take up the post once his notice period had been agreed with the Football Association.

He replaces Peter Storrie who decided last month that it was in the best interests of the club for him to step down as chief executive after eight years at Portsmouth.

"The club has been through some tough times this season and I intend to bring some stability and transparency to operations," Lampitt told the club website (www.portsmouthfc.co.uk).

"Pompey have some of the best fans in the country and they deserve their great support to be matched by equally high standards of governance at the club."

FA chairman David Triesman wished him well.

"It is a great tribute to him that one of our oldest and most famous clubs should look to his expertise and personal character to bring it through a time of great difficulty," he said in a statement.

"Portsmouth's fans should take comfort in a wise, long-sighted appointment."

PLAYER CONTRACTS

Portsmouth play Tottenham Hotspur, guided by the south coast club's former manager Harry Redknapp, in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Sunday.

They could even start the match as a relegated side if West Ham United and Hull City win their matches on Saturday.

The debt-ravaged club have lurched from one crisis to another through a succession of owners over the last nine months and are millions of pounds in debt with a nine-point deduction for going into administration.

Unless the players rip up their existing contracts, which is more than likely, at least half the team may be ruled out of playing for Pompey after the semi-final due to clauses otherwise guaranteeing bonuses or new contracts the club cannot afford.

"There are clauses... that may result in them (the players) receiving additional sums of money under their contracts once they reach certain thresholds of games," said Andronikou.

"But we are talking to their agents and the majority of them, they are cooperating. I'm sure the players want to play for the club anyway," he added.

"It's just demonstrating the situation where we are really, we seem to be hamstrung in certain areas and need the goodwill of the players, which of course we are getting. They have been more than cooperative and very helpful to the cause."

Andronikou said Portsmouth would still have to sell players at the end of the season.

"I am very much focusing on the FA Cup semi-final and see what happens thereafter but yes, we will obviously have to make some significant adjustments to the playing squad. That's something we will be reviewing after the FA Cup," he added.

ESPN sees viewer spike for Tiger Woods comeback

Tiger Woods of the U.S. hits his tee shot on the seventh hole during second...

Published>Sat, Apr 10 10 12:30 AM

The ESPN television network enjoyed a 50 percent spike in ratings for its opening-day broadcast of the Masters golf tournament as Tiger Woods made his comeback from a sex scandal, early audience figures showed on Friday.

The Masters, one of golf's most prestigious tournaments, began on Thursday and runs through Sunday. Woods has won the Masters four times. CBS will broadcast the tournament on Saturday and Sunday. ESPN aired it Thursday and Friday.

The cable TV sports network, which is owned by the Walt Disney Co, reached 3.6 percent of households in major U.S. cities where the audience was measured on Thursday, said ESPN spokesman Dave Nagle.

That is a 50 percent increase from a year ago when ESPN reached 2.4 percent of the same households, and a total of 3.4 million viewers, with its first day broadcast of the Masters. Full audience viewership figures are expected later on Friday.

"There obviously was a big buildup to his return to the tour and it brought in a much larger audience beyond the core golf fan," Nagle said.

Woods playing at the Masters in Augusta, Georgia, marks his return to the game after announcing in December that he would take a break from the sport following media revelations of his extra-marital affairs with women.

If comments posted on social networking websites are any indication, Woods may soon be out of the woods when it comes to his image problems.

Research firm Viralheat said 70 percent of comments about Woods on social networking websites Thursday were positive. Similar trends were seen earlier this week, the firm said.

"He's not pure as the driven snow anymore but he's still a great golfer," said Cooper Lawrence, author of "The Cult of Celebrity." "He didn't cheat on us. He cheated on his wife -- frankly, it's none of our business that way."

When ESPN broke away from regular programming to show Woods teeing off at the Masters, its viewership for that hour doubled to 0.8 percent of households in major U.S. cities, Nagle said.

Around that time, more than 17,500 comments mentioning Woods were posted on the social network website Twitter.com, the tracking firm Trendrr said. Nearly 11,000 Twitter comments were made when Woods gave a news conference Monday.

Celebrity websites such as TMZ.com devoted more attention to the spectacle surrounding Woods than his play.

Bob Thompson, a TV expert at Syracuse University, noted that ESPN's coverage of the Masters gave little mention to Woods' affairs and that fact lessened its appeal for a big segment of the audience.

"Usually this kind of thing would have been exploited to the hilt and this time it wasn't," Thompson said. "The way this is being covered is less a concentration on the soap opera and more on the kind of yeoman duty of playing a game golf."

Woods two shots off pace at Masters

Tiger Woods of the U.S. runs out from under the trees to watch his approach...

Published>Sat, Apr 10 10 12:12 AM

Tiger Woods made an erratic start to Friday's second round at the U.S. Masters, offsetting an early birdie with a bogey at the fourth to stay at four under par overall after 10 holes.

That left the world number one two strokes behind pacesetting Americans Fred Couples and Ricky Barnes and Britain's Ian Poulter on a glorious spring day at Augusta National.

First-round leader Couples, the 1992 champion, was level for the day after 13 holes, the long-hitting Barnes had completed nine and Englishman Poulter 10.

Only 10 players out on the course were under par for the round with tricky pin positions and Augusta's notorious swirling winds making club selection difficult.

Again watched by huge galleries on his highly anticipated return to competition after a self-imposed break of almost five months, Woods made a scrambling par at the first after pulling his tee shot well left into pine trees.

He recovered with a low, punched hook off pine straw on to the fairway before getting up and down from just short of a greenside bunker to stay at four under overall.

Woods, who wore sunglasses in between every shot due to the glare and high pollen count, birdied the par-five second after chipping from just off the green to within three feet of the cup and knocking in the putt.

Wearing a black sweater and black trousers, the 14-times major champion tipped his cap to acknowledge the cheers from the crowd packed around the second green.

After narrowly missing a long-range birdie attempt at the third, Woods stumbled at the par-three fourth where he pulled his iron shot well left after twice changing clubs on the tee.

From behind the left greenside bunker, he hit a lob wedge to 10 feet but missed the par putt to slip back to four under overall.

Woods was again in crowd-pleasing mode, having promised on Monday to give more respect to the game and the fans following startling revelations about his extra-marital affairs at the end of last year.

After teeing off at the par-three sixth, he spotted a young boy wearing a baseball cap with 'TW' emblazoned on the front and he put a huge grin on the youngster's face by giving him a friendly hand slap as he walked by.

Woods failed to birdie the par-five eighth which he had eagled the previous day, his wedge approach screwing back 75 feet from the pin and he did well to two-putt from there for par.

Conditions are expected to remain sunny for the rest of the round with a chance of winds gusting up to 32-kph later.

We are still in mix: Dravid

Published Fri, Apr 09 10 10:24 PM

Bangalore, Apr 9 (PTI) Their campaign has gone off the track after four defeats in five matches but Rahul Dravid is confident that Royal Challengers Bangalore will bounce back in the Indian Premier League, which is witnessing a keen tussle for the semifinal spots. RCB will lock horns with equally desperate Kolkata Knight Riders at home ground tomorrow. "I think we are still in the mix. We started off really well winning four out of five games to position ourselves at the top of the table. We haven''t played the way we would have liked to in the last four or five games. But the good start is helping us now. "Hopefully, we are in the mix as anyone else. We have to play good cricket from here on. We can''t afford to lose too any game now," Dravid said on the eve of the crucial match. "We are playing with teams that are competing for the spots with you, almost all are must win games," he added. Dravid sounded a warning for Kolkata saying they will be an altogether different team tomorrow. "It should be a good contest because both the teams are in the middle of the table and need to win against each other. I see this as a really important game. Most teams need to win 7-8 games, preferably 8. "If you are playing a team which is so close to you, you have to win that game. They have got a good team. With the quality of players we have, definitely we can bounce back. "We are disappointed with what has happened in the last two weeks and are keen to bounce back. Tomorrow you will see a side which is determined to stay in the tournament," he said Though Ganguly has been laid low with an ankle injury, Dravid felt the former Indian captain would play tomorrow. "He is a very important player for KKR, I think they are going to play him with just four matches to go before semifinals. We are going to prepare ourselves thinking that he is going to play. I see no other reasons to think otherwise." Dravid said it was disappointing that they could not defend a good total of 184 against Deccan Chargers. "I think 184 was a good total and it was disappointing not to defend that. Credit to them and they took chances and it paid off. We could have bowled a little better in the middle and end overs. "Having said that we have some quality bowlers in our line-up. All the five bowlers who took part on Thursday are internationals. They have consistently taken field for us in this tournament. We had some bad days, but we can definitely bounce back," he said. Asked if RCB had peaked a little too early, Dravid said, "Everytime is a right time to win. Looking back it''s nice that we have that cushion. We started off so well that we could afford to drop a few points. But now the cushion factor is gone now. "You can see we won five and lost five. We can''t afford to lose any more games from now on. Certainly we have to peak right now." PTI JH AT

Senior players don't want to be second best: Sangakkara

Published>Fri, Apr 09 10 10:10 PM

Chandigarh, April 9 (IANS) Kings XI Punjab skipper Kumara Sangakkara is not surprised that Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Mathew Hayden, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble, have outclassed many youngsters in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as he says that senior players are never satisfied being the second best.

Turns and twists continue in Sania-Shoaib marriage saga

Published Fri, Apr 09 10 08:24 PM

Hyderabad, Apr 9 (PTI) In yet another twist to their controversial wedding build-up, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik sought to re-schedule their marriage to this evening but were forced to push it back to the original date of April 15 due to legal hassles. The marriage, which was confirmed by the Quazi Azmatullah Jaffri of Dar-Ul-Qazzat earlier in the day, could not be performed as Shoaib reportedly could not submit necessary documents like passport and clearances with regard to closing of the criminal case filed against him. The Hyderabad police took Shoaib''s passport after Ayesha Siddiqui, a Hyderabad girl whom he allegedly married in 2002, lodged an FIR against him for dumping her after the marriage. Shoaib, being a foreign national, his passport was deposited in a local court as part of the police procedure. A close relative of Sania said the marriage would be performed on the morning of April 15 and a grand reception is scheduled in the evening. Sania''s aunt Hameeda Usman said, "There is no function today. It is scheduled to take place on April 15 according to the original plan." Quazi Jaffri earlier said that Friday, being an auspicious day, the Nikah will be performed after ''Magrib'' prayers (evening prayers) today. When contacted, Narasimha Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police told PTI that as far as police are concerned, the case is closed but Shoaib has to apply to the court to get back his passport. A strong media contingent waited outside Sania''s house for most part of the day and new barricade were erected to keep the media at bay. Close relatives of Sania kept visiting the family. Her father Imran emerged from the house but did not talk to the waiting media men. Ever since they announced their wedding, the couple had been hounded by the media over Shoaib''s first marriage. Ayesha had alleged that Shoaib married her over phone before dumping her without a divorce due to her weight problems. Shoaib initially denied the allegations and claimed that Ayesha duped him into a phone marriage by sending photographs of a different woman. The all-rounder, however, finally agreed to divorce her after being pressurized by community leaders. Ayesha had filed an FIR against Shoaib alleging fraud and criminal intimidation which led to the cricketer''s passport being confiscated by the police. The FIRs have been withdrawn after Shoaib agreed to divorce Ayesha.

Apex court bar to OCIs in Indian teams draws mixed reaction

Published>Fri, Apr 09 10 08:20 PM

New Delhi, April 9 (IANS) The Supreme Court's observation that Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are ineligible to represent India in sports events has evoked a mixed response from the national federations.

The government in 2008 had ruled that only India citizens would be eligible to represent the country at the international events, but the Punjab High Court last month ruled against the government fiat.

The court ruling came in response to a plea by shooter Sohrab Gill, son of Punjab Director-General of Police S.P.Gill. Sohrab was born in the United States, but returned to India when he was a year old. An OCI since 2007, Gill has represented India in the world events for juniors and won medals at the Asian Championship in Kuwait in 2007.

While arguing the case, Gill referred to home ministry notification of 2005 that stated overseas Indians are to be treated at par with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in respect of economic, financial and educational matters.

Gill's case was that the expression education in the notification includes sports.

But a three-judge Supreme Court bench, comprising Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Justice Deepak Verma and Justice B.S. Chauhan, Thursday said foreign nationals of Indian origin or OCI, cannot, unlike NRIs, 'claim any right to represent India in international sporting events.'

'An Indian team should consist of only Indians. There is no doubt about it,' Balakrishnan said.

The bench's remark came after solicitor-general Gopal Subramanium said the question of law must be settled because 'many international sporting events are immediately due.'

The Supreme Court judgment will decide the fate of quite a few sportspersons who are hoping they would get an opportunity to turn out for India again. The question assumes urgency because the Commonwealth Games are to be held Oct 3-14.

The government's decision initially affected Indian tennis as it lost three of its top players who are based in the US -- Prakash Amritraj was a member of the Davis Cup squad, and Sunitha Rao and Shikha Uberoi were in the Fed Cup team.

Prakash's exit was not felt so much, as Rohan Bopanna filled the second singles slot behind India's top-ranked player Somdev Devvarman and the Fed Cup team, which largely depends on its world-ranked Sania Mirza, brought in younger players to fill the void left by Shikha and Sunitha.

The All India Tennis Association (AITA) doesn't appear to be too worried about the Supreme court ruling either way.

'We will abide by the government decision. We have been following it anyway for over year now,' AITA executive Ranbir Chauhan told IANS.

Another tennis official, who did not want to be named, said the ruling had come as a blessing in disguise for Indian tennis.

'When Sunitha and Shikha played for India, the Fed Cup team was relegated from Group I and this year we are back there with young Poojashree Venkatesh performing so well. In Davis Cup, Yuki Bhambri got an opportunity to show his potential. So, the youngsters got a chance to play and prove themselves,' he said.

'Moreover, if these players are so keen on playing for India, then they should give up their American passports,' he said.

Baljeet Sethi, secretary-general National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), however, termed the ruling 'disappointing and discouraging' for young shooters based and training overseas.

'Why did the government wake up so late? At least three of our youngsters won't be able to shoot for India, despite performing well internationally. It is not about getting medals but you are discouraging sportspersons who have been shooting for a long time,' Sethi said.

Messi will find W.Cup harder - Uruguay captain

Barcelona's Lionel Messi celebrates after scoring his fourth goal against Arsenal during their Champions League...

Published>Fri, Apr 09 10 08:10 PM

Defenders could ruin Lionel Messi's plans to shine at the World Cup because they will focus on marking the Argentine who is out of this world, Uruguay captain Diego Lugano said.

The Fenerbahce central defender who faced Messi twice during the South American qualifiers told Reuters in an interview that Messi would only stand out at the South Africa finals if Argentina do well.

"For Messi at the World Cup it can get a bit more difficult because the matches will be tighter," Lugano said, speaking from Turkey.

"Opponents are going to mark him very hard and although he will make a difference because he is out of this world, it will be tougher (for him than in other tournaments).

"It's also going to depend a lot on how things go for his national team for him to stand out but there's no doubt we're talking about one of the most spectacular players of all time."

Messi soared to new heights with four goals when Barcelona beat Arsenal 4-1 at home in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.

However, FIFA's World Player of the Year has struggled to translate his Barcelona form to Argentina and was criticised at home for a perceived lack of commitment.

ANOTHER TITLE

Diego Maradona's Argentina will be looking to end a 24-year wait for the country's third title at the finals starting on June 11. They face Nigeria, South Korea and Greece in Group B.

Uruguay, who also have two titles dating back to the first half of the last century, are in a tough Group A with the host nation, France and Mexico.

Lugano, 29 and yet to win his first cap when Uruguay last played at the finals in Asia in 2002, named Brazil midfielder Kaka and Messi's Barcelona team mate Xavi of European champions Spain as players who could also shine in South Africa.

"Spain are playing a game that is superior to all others, without doubt they will arrive at the World cup as big favourites, then at the World cup anything can happen, but there is proof they are the national team in the best shape," he said.

He said record five-times champions Brazil and Argentina, despite their qualification troubles, were also favourites with their background and world class players.

Germany and title holders Italy could also be expected to do well when it mattered.

"The historic teams will also be making their mark on the championship and I hope Uruguay can get in among them."

ANALYSIS - Puma must wake up to outdoor oldies market

A man is reflected in a window with a Puma sign, at the factory outlet...

Published>Fri, Apr 09 10 07:30 PM

World No. 3 sports goods maker Puma risks missing a bonanza as ageing populations swap their drinking habits and party clothes for a waterproof coat and a stout pair of walking shoes.

Rivals Nike and Adidas are out in front, capitalising on the trend towards healthier living in a growing section of the population. Puma has yet to make a move on this lucrative sector, and a takeover or two could be the answer.

"It's definitely a growth market on a global level, certainly one that sports retailers and major sports brands should be looking to access," said Planet Retail analyst Bryan Roberts.

"As people move into middle age they tend to look toward outdoor pursuits as something which is more amenable to their lifestyle than nightclubbing."

The European outdoor market grew 1 percent in 2008 to 14.1 billion euros ($19.0 billion), outperforming a 1 percent drop in the European sport market of which it forms a part, market research group NPD said.

There is no data available for 2009 yet, NPD says the market for trekking, hiking, mountain biking and the like has strong growth potential because of the demographics in Europe and other mature markets.

Recession also boosted the industry last year as people chose cheaper camping and walking holidays over long-haul trips to save cash.

The industry itself has also changed, and now sees not only the hardcore mountaineer as its core client but also those who fight their way through the urban jungle day by day.

"Outdoor clothing is for the textile sector what Formula One is for the automotive industry -- the mass market benefits from technological advancements for extreme applications," said Stefan Brunner at market research company GfK.

HIKING UP

Brands like Jack Wolfskin, Fjaell Raeven, and The North Face -- which is part of the VF Corp -- are among those riding a wave of strong demand for softshell jackets, high traction hiking boots and sporty outdoor pants.

Jack Wolfskin, for example, posted a 22 percent rise in 2009 sales to 251 million euros -- the sixth annual rise in a row.

The German company founded in 1981 said a change in the way people spend their free time was one reason why demand for its products was growing.

"There is a desire to compensate for an increasingly hectic environment by spending time outdoors," the company said.

Adidas's campaign to push its professional Terrex outdoor collection is spearheaded by Alexander and Thomas Huber. They are professional rock climbing brothers, now the faces of the group's latest attempt to crack the outdoor market after several previous assaults failed.

The Adidas Outdoor brand launched in 2007 now boasts annual revenue of almost 200 million euros. Adidas plans to "establish itself as a benchmark in the outdoor sector by 2015".

"I think this is a market which will keep growing in the next couple of years because trekking, hiking and mountain biking are on the rise," Adidas Chief Executive Herbert Hainer said. "We will invest what's needed to be a strong player in this market."

Arch-rival Nike launched its outdoor brand All Condition Gear (ACG) in the early 1980s and has just launched its Nike 6.0 action sports brand. It expects its action sports category to grow at a double-digit rate over the next three years in Europe.

This puts Puma on the spot. The world's third-largest sporting goods maker behind Nike and Adidas has no individual outdoor brand apart from its sailing operations, which it runs under the Puma brand.

Planet Retail's Roberts said "it could be of interest to them (Puma) to access a growing market, but whether or not they could build any critical mass could be a gamble for them".

It could be strategically more significant to push brand presence in places like China, India and Brazil, he added.

A Puma spokeswoman said Puma would continue to follow its strategy to expand regionally, both within its categories and via non-Puma brands. It recently bought the golf equipment brand Cobra for an undisclosed sum.

But the company declined to comment on whether it would expand its outdoor operations. Puma's net cash stood at 450 million euros earlier this year and it said that it did not want to get into debt as a result of an acquisition.

Aside from an acquisition, Puma could copy Adidas and Nike and launch its own brand, or co-operate with other players.

Analysts said a separate brand would make it easier to differentiate its outdoor gear from its lifestyle wear.

And this might be a good time to buy. The industry is under increasing pricing pressure with more players moving into the market and private labels picking up on the trend as well.

"What we will probably see is that bigger brands will acquire smaller brands. And this trend has already started," said Olivier Macard, global retail leader at Ernst & Young, adding that bigger brands had the necessary cash flow.

And as many of the niche brands are family-owned, the problem of succession could also drive some to sell, he added.

One brand that is being closely tracked by potential trade buyers is Norwegian outdoor clothing brand Helly Hansen, owned by Swedish private equity firm Altor.

Jack Wolfskin -- owned by Barclays Private Equity, Quadriga Capital, and its management -- said there were no plans to sell the company.

Whichever way Puma decides to go, Planet Retail's Roberts said a strong position in outdoor wear could be of broader benefit to marketing.

"It fits into the whole healthy lifestyle message and that's a very good one for companies to have," he said.

Published Fri, Apr 09 10 06:24 PM

Colombo, Apr 9 (PTI) Having made waves on the cricket field, Sri Lankan all rounder Sanath Jayasuriya today made his debut as a lawmaker, romping home with a runaway victory from a parliamentary constituency in Matara district in the south. Jayasuriya was declared winner in absentia, garnering 74,352 votes as the results for the countrywide parliamentary election trickled in. The cricketer won on the ticket of the ruling United People''s Freedom Party alliance of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He was not present at the counting as he is playing for the Mumbai Eleven in the ongoing IPL. In a special gesture, Jayasuriya was given permission to cast his vote a day earlier as he had to proceed to join his Mumbai teammates in India. The 40-year-old star batsman is a political novice and has made it in his first attempt at the hustings. But the fate of his teammate and former captain Arjun Ranatunga still hung in balance. Ranatunga was reported to be locked in a close contest in his parliamentary seat. The former Lankan captain is in the fray on the ticket of the opposition Democratic National Alliance led by detained former army chief Sarath Fonseka. With counting still in progress, it was unclear whether Ranatunga would join Jayasuriya in parliament. Though Jayasuriya retired from test cricket in 2007, he has been included in the Sri Lankan team for the world 20:20 tournament which gets underway in West Indies from April 30.

Mohun Bagan to face Salgaocar tomorrow

Published Fri, Apr 09 10 06:10 PM

Kolkata, Apr 9 (PTI) With ace striker Edeh Chidi uncertain and Deepak Mondal out of action due to suspension, Mohun Bagan will face stiff challenge when they take on Salgaocar in a I-League round 20 encounter at Yuba Bharati Krirangan here tomorrow. With a new coach in Biswajit Bhattacharjee -- their third this season -- Mohun Bagan will also be up against their former coach Karim Bencherifa, who will try to score on a personal front by giving Salgaocar the full points. Having parted ways with their Moroccan coach Bencherifa, Mohun Bagan struggled under Satyajit Chatterjee and suffered two upsets at the hands of bottom-placed teams Sporting Club de Goa and Lajong FC that resulted in the coach''s exit. Under Bhattacharjee, Mohun Bagan, lying on seventh place, will look to start afresh and improve on their standings. Mohun Bagan''s Nigerian recruit Chidi has a recurrence of his thigh muscle injury but the coach has not ruled him out. "We will take a final call tomorrow," said Bhattacharjee. In the central defence, Mondal will have to sit out because of a double booking. Under Bencherifa, Salgaocar have been able to lift their fortunes with victories over heavyweights Dempo and East Bengal. But in their last match Salgocar went down to Sporting Clube de Goa and the coach will look to bounce back from their last round''s loss. "I have some happy memories here and we will look for at least a point against a formidable opponents in Mohun Bagan," Bencherifa said.

Revealed: the link between Wayne Rooney and Picasso

Published Fri, Apr 09 10 05:30 PM

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Chelsea's Didier Drogba are just two of more than 40 players and managers of soccer's English Premier League to have drawn self-portraits for a charity auction.

The portraits -- mostly stick-men -- might suggest more time spent in front of the locker room chalkboard than considering fine art at the Royal Academy, but the felt-tip pen drawings are considered rare pieces of football memorabilia, according to a statement from the Premier League.

The portraits will be offered in a leather-bound book entitled "The Art of Football" that will be auctioned in aid of the British music charity Nordoff Robbins on April 12.

"Some of the English game's greatest on-the-pitch artists have proved their skills extend off the pitch too, with each entry a unique insight into the minds of Premier League stars," the league said in the statement.

Graphologist Emma Bache, who was employed by the league to analyse the signatures and portraits to assess the character and personalities of the individuals, described Rooney's as Picasso-esque and said his portrait and signature reveal honesty, determination and self-criticism.

"He's a forward-thinker, an analyser who wants to know what's what in everything," Bache said. "He doesn't take things lightly so tries his very best to work things out.

The book's auction will be held at the Football Extravaganza, the world's longest-running annual charity football event. However, dinner guests will not have exclusive rights to the book's auction. The public can also bid for it at www.nordoff-robbins.org.uk on the day of the auction.

At the dinner and auction, Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson will present France's former Man United player Eric Cantona with the "Legend of Football" award, recognising the outstanding contribution an individual has made to the British game.

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has signed a new six-year deal with the Premier League club and hailed it as probably the best news of his life.

"To play for Liverpool is very special. I've been here for five years and now I will be here for six more and it's very exciting," Reina told the club's website (www.liverpoolfc.tv) on Friday.

"I'm delighted to sign a new contract. It's probably the best news of my life that I'll be here for the next six years."

The 27-year-old Spaniard, who joined the Merseyside club in July 2005 from Villarreal, has been one of manager Rafa Benitez's best signings, notching up 177 league appearances.

Reina, who won the Super Cup in 2005 with Liverpool and the FA Cup a year later, said his family were big fans of the area and the native Scouse accent as well.

"My wife told me from the beginning she was more than happy here. My kids enjoy it and they have picked up the Scouse accent already. I am really proud of that," said Reina, whose side are sixth in the league.

"In the years ahead they will speak much more Scouse too."

Murray's former coach emerging as frontrunner for Davis Cup captaincy

Published>Fri, Apr 09 10 04:54 PM

London, Apr 9(ANI): Ace tennis player Andy Murray's former coach Leon Smith is emerging as a frontrunner to be Britain's next Davis Cup captain.

Smith coached Murray between the ages of 11 and 16.

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is expected to make an announcement next week on who will succeed John Lloyd, who resigned from the post following their recent humiliating defeat to Lithuania.

The governing body refused to confirm if Smith had been offered the job, The Telegraph reports.

The LTA has consulted widely and among the names considered were Tim Henman, Miles Maclagan and Rusedski.

Henman would have been the LTA's first choice as a replacement, but he made it clear that he would turn down any offer to become captain, as he does not feel ready for the responsibility and the commitment that comes with the job.

Britain needs to win the Turkey relegation playoff in order to avoid dropping into the Europe/Africa zone Group III. (ANI)

Lula rules out rain disturbing World Cup, Olympics

Published>Fri, Apr 09 10 04:40 PM

Rio de Janeiro, April 9 (DPA) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva ruled out Tuesday that rain-related problems may jeopardize the Brazil 2014 football World Cup and the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Mudslides and severe flooding caused by heavy rain since late Monday claimed at least 77 lives in and around Rio de Janeiro, the authorities said Tuesday.

'It does not rain everyday. Neither are there quakes everyday in Chile and Haiti. Usually, the months of June and July (when the two major sporting events are set to take place) are calmer. Rio is ready to host the Olympic Games and the World Cup, the best the world has ever known,' Lula said.

In an interview in Rio, where rain led him to cancel an event to launch public works to improve a favela (slum) Tuesday, Lula said it is necessary to wait until the rain stops to be able to plan the city's recovery.

'We can only ask God to make the rain stop, so we can get on with life in the city,' he said.

Lula stressed, however, that his government's resources, including the Navy, are at the disposal of Rio authorities.

'All the material help that the mayor and the governor may need is ready and at their disposal,' he stressed.

Lula said his government will help local authorities put in place a programme to move poor residents away from areas that are vulnerable to mudslides, which they occupied illegally and which became favelas.

'There needs to be a a consciousness raising effort to prevent people from occupying risk areas. We will show complete solidarity in a joint search for solutions to this problem,' Lula said.

Porn star ex says Tiger Woods 'should stay home and repair his marriage'

Published>Fri, Apr 09 10 04:24 PM

New York, Apr 9 (ANI): Just like wife Elin, jilted porn star Joslyn James too believes that Tiger Woods should sit at home and work on his marriage instead of playing golf.

"He shouldn't have rushed back to play. ... He uses these tournaments to go around being a philanderer. He should stay home and repair his relationship with his wife," the New York Daily News quoted Woods' ex-mistress James, as saying.

And he should apologize to her, James added.

"I just wish he'd tell the truth," James, who twirled around the pole yesterday at the Pink Pony strip club, said, "and be the kind of man his mother and father raised him to be."

Before her show, James talked about her relationship with Woods.

"I went out of my way to please him in the bedroom," she said. "I went that extra mile, that extra step. He likes a lot of different things."

"He has an addiction, to lying," she said.

Woods, 34, made headlines with his return to the Masters, but his wife Elin is said to be getting furious day by day with his decision to put his game before their relationship.

"There's a reason why Elin didn't go to the tournament and it's simple," a source said.

"She thinks he's breaking his promise to her by returning to golf so soon. And as every day goes by she gets a little angrier," the source added. (ANI)

Man U, Arsenal's Champions League ouster not good for Chelsea: Ancelotti

Published>Fri, Apr 09 10 04:20 PM

London, Apr 9(ANI): Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti fears his club's title hopes are at risk after Manchester United and Arsenal stormed out of the Champions League.

Chelsea leads United and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League by just two and three points respectively.

Ancelotti had hoped that the two clubs would continue to be distracted by playing in the latter stages of the Champions League, but Arsenal were thrashed 4-1 by Barcelona, while United crashed out on away goals to Bayern Munich.

"It is not good news for us. The Champions League is a very important competition and you have to use a lot of energy to play in it. But both teams can now focus on the league. It's the only competition they have left," The Sun quoted Ancelotti, as saying.

"We have to pay attention because they are very close to us and we need to run quickly to arrive in first place. I'd have liked United to win against Bayern and to stay in the Champions League. It would have made it easier for us," he added.

Ancelotti further believes that United will bounce back from the defeats to give them tough competition.

"They had a bad week, but now they have the chance to come back and win. They have the quality and experience to change their state of mind, to stay focused," he added. (ANI)

Manchester United dumps plan to sign David Villa

London, Apr 9(ANI): Manchester United has reportedly rejected the option to sign Valencia striker David Villa, as they cannot afford the 40 million pound asking price.

Villa is set to leave cash-strapped Valencia this summer, with United believed to be his preferred destination.

However, under financial restrictions imposed upon United by the Glazer family, a signing seems improbable.

Manchester City and Chelsea will now step up the hunt for Villa in the summer, The Mirror reports.

The 28-year-old has also been linked with top clubs, including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool. (ANI)

Argentina either World Cup winners or first home - Ardiles

Published>Fri, Apr 09 10 03:10 PM

Argentina are as likely to win the 2010 World Cup in South Africa as they are to be knocked out in the group stage, 1978 World Cup winner Ossie Ardiles has said.

With the emotional Diego Maradona at the helm, Argentina's qualifying campaign was a rollercoaster ride, with victory in the final two games sealing a place at the finals as South America's fourth best team.

Despite making heavy weather of getting to South Africa, talk since then has inevitably turned to their chances of winning the tournament for the first time since the diminutive Maradona lifted the trophy in 1986.

"I guess that a bit like Diego himself, there's no middle ground," a sweating Ardiles told Reuters after a coaching clinic on Singapore's Padang field.

"I can just as easily see Argentina winning it or I can see us going home after 10 days."

Argentina have been drawn in Group B for the June 11-July 11 World Cup in South Africa alongside Nigeria, South Korea and Greece.

"We have the calibre and quality of players to win it but our qualifying campaign showed that having a cast of world-class players doesn't automatically convert into a unbeatable team."

Argentina were humbled 6-1 by Bolivia and 3-1 at home to rivals Brazil in qualifying before scraping through to South Africa with a 1-0 win over Uruguay in their final match.

Ardiles, a good friend and former team mate of Maradona, believes that the current coach is beginning to put his mark on the team and has learned from the mistakes made in qualifying, where the coach chopped and changed his team regularly.

"I think, and perhaps even he will admit it, Diego picked some odd players in qualifying," explained the former Tottenham player.

"Anyway, I think he now knows his best team and the performance against Germany (Argentina won 1-0 last month) showed that Diego understands what is required of him as a coach. It was an impressive performance."

BRAZIL AND SPAIN

Ardiles, however, doesn't subscribe to the view that the inspirational Lionel Messi is the key to Argentina success in South Africa.

"Of course, everyone is expecting Messi to be the player of the tournament but great players do not win World Cups on their own. Even in 1986, Diego didn't win the World Cup all on his own."

If Argentina do progress to the latter stages, Ardiles expects Spain and Brazil to be the main threat.

"Any team which can leave Cesc Fabregas on the bench, has to be feared," was his verdict on Vicente Del Bosque's men. As for Brazil? "It's hard to single anyone out in that team because they are all so good."

England, however, where Ardiles made his name as player, are not the threat they were, said the 57-year-old.

"A few months ago, they were very settled and had great confidence but they have some injury problems and some weaknesses.

"If (Wayne) Rooney gets injured, I don't think they have someone else like him. And they are weak in goal as well. I don't think Rio Ferdinand is fit either.

"But I don't see any issue with the scandal between John Terry and Wayne Bridge," Ardiles said after newspaper revelations that the former England captain had an extra-marital affair with the ex-partner of his team mate.

"Believe me, I was a room mate of Maradona's so I know all about scandal and problems."

Tiger Woods' relationship with wife 'getting worse'

Published>Fri, Apr 09 10 02:10 PM

Washington, April 9 (ANI): Professional golfer Tiger Woods is said to be making his golf comeback at the expense of his marriage.

Woods, 34, had made headline with his return to the Masters, but his wife Elin is said to be getting furious day by day with his decision to put his game before their relationship.

"There's a reason why Elin didn't go to the tournament and it's simple," RadarOnline.com quoted a source as saying.

"She thinks he's breaking his promise to her by returning to golf so soon. And as every day goes by she gets a little angrier," the source said.

The source also revealed that the couple fought about his golf return a few weeks ago when Woods first told Elin.

"And since then she has been ice cold to him. Not only did she refuse his request to go to the tournament but she also has moved away from him emotionally," the source revealed.

The two had been trying to repair their marriage after his secret cheating life was revealed, and they were also at one point about a month ago seen hugging outdoors with Woods giving her a kiss on the cheek.

"That was when things peaked," the source, who sees them on a regular basis, said.

"They are not living in the same house and Elin has grown very cold.

"In fact now when she drops the kids off to his house, sometimes she has a nanny take them inside. Other times she will ring the bell and when Tiger answers, give him the children but not go inside.

"It's a very cold, cold message. Tiger is extremely upset about it and wants Elin to move back home. She rented a house about a mile away and is also refusing to wear her wedding rings.

"Elin thinks if Tiger rushed his golf comeback then all he was interested in was getting back to where he was and she doesn't want to go back to where they were.

"There were so many other women, so many years of betrayal, of Tiger living a lie. Elin has to learn to trust him again and that is not happening.

"In fact, his return to golf has made her trust him less," the source revealed.

Elin, who is normally an extremely upbeat person, has been more uptight and in bad moods the past several weeks.

"There's no question it's all directed toward Tiger. She barely goes near him most days. He's going to have to do something drastic to improve things," the source added. (ANI)
