New Delhi, May 5 (IANS) The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) Wednesday came out in support of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) saying that the sports ministry's decision to regulate the tenure and age limit of sports officials is 'distracting' at a time when the country is running against time to host the Commonwealth Games in October.
'It is a distraction and also at a time when the country is in its last phase to prepare for the Commonwealth Games. One can only hope this distraction doesn't continue for long,' said CGF treasurer Austin Sealy.
Sealy, who is the chairman of the co-ordination commission of the CWG, said the government's decision will not have any affect on the India hosting the Commonwealth Games.
'It will not affect India hosting the Commonwealth Games, but surely we are closely monitoring the situation,' he said.
Sealy also indicated that the government's decision to put a cap on tenure and age limit (maximum of 70 years) on the officials of the IOA and National Sports Federation (NSFs) is baffling.
'I have been the CGF treasurer for the last 25 years while Mike Fennell has been the CGF president for the last 30 years. We are informing you about all these facts because there are lot of distractions taking place on this issue,' he said.
