London, Sep 16(ANI): Former England cricketer Chris Broad's wife, Michelle, had killed herself after battling with a crippling neurological disease, a coroner has ruled.

Michelle had seen her health deteriorate after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2009.

The devastating illness meant that she could not swallow properly and was increasingly reliant on her wheelchair.

She was found collapsed at her home in West Bridgford on July 6 by husband Chris.

Michelle was taken to Queen's Medical Centre by ambulance, but died the next day.

Recording a verdict of suicide at Nottingham Coroner's Court, coroner Dr. Nigel Chapman said: "Clearly she had made a lot of plans. There are a lot of letters. This was well planned and well laid out."

Speaking after the inquest, Broad said that his wife only began to struggle with the neurological illness in the last few months of her life.

"Up until that time she had as normal a life as possible. Fortunately she didn't struggle for long," The Nation quoted Broad, as saying.

Broad also said that he had no idea that his wife planned to take her own life.

"That was the first I knew. It was of her choosing. She was very clear about that," he added. (ANI)
