Deep was held by Pallabi Roy in 80 moves

Kolkata, Sep 2 (PTI) Top seed and champion for the last two years, Grandmaster Deep Sengupta was held to a draw, even as eight-year-old Mitrabha Guha emerged as the surprise joint leader in the 5th Tea Board of India Chess For Youth Championship at Netaji Indoor Stadium here today. At the end of round two in the premier (U-25) section, Sengupta almost suffered a reversal of fortune before signing truce with statemate Pallabi Roy after 80 moves. Last year''s Asian U-8 champion Mitrabha, who is competing in the premier section, went into the joint lead with two points. National women''s champion Krutika Nadig and former Asian Junior girls champions Mary Ann Gomes too won both her games to get into the joint lead with two points apiece. 622 participants are participating in the 7 round Swiss league tournament which is being organised by the Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy in association with Allsport Management.
