Lahore, Sep 28 (ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt is leaving for England today, and is expected to hold meetings with the lawyer of the three players- Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer- implicated in spot-fixing allegations.
During his four to five day long trip, Butt will be meeting Elizabeth Robertson, the Addleshaw Goddard lawyer, who is representing the tainted trio in the spot-fixing case, the Daily Times reported.
He would also meet Scotland Yard officials, who passed on their file of evidence against the Pakistan cricketers to the Crown Prosecution Service on September 17.
"The PCB wants to know the progress Scotland Yard has made in its investigations into the allegations. They want a clear picture of whether the players are going to be charged or not. The PCB wants to know if there is a possibility that the suspension on the trio can be lifted," revealed a source.
However, whether Butt will meet the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) officials during his trip to London is not confirmed. The ECB has demanded an unreserved public apology from the PCB and Butt for claiming that England players had thrown the third one-day international against Pakistan at The Oval in lieu of 'enormous amounts' of money.
Earlier, British police had interrogated Butt, Aamer and Asif over claims that they took money to deliberately bowl no-balls against England at Lord's last month. (ANI)
