New Delhi, Oct 16 (IANS) Relieved that 'no one has found anything negative about security' measures for the just concluded Commonwealth Games, Home Minister P. Chidambaram Saturday said the mega event had led to a 'better' outlook among Delhiites towards security personnel and safety rules.
'I am gratified that no one has found anything negative about security. People also have learnt that tight security measures are a must for a modern city. The behaviour of Delhi has changed and this change is for better,' Chidambaram said here.
He was addressing the only women's battalion of the Nagaland Police that had been deputed for security at Delhi market places during the Oct 3-14 event.
Chidambaram expressed hope that the 'remarkable' perceptional change towards security measures 'is not a temporary change'.
'It must remain forever. Delhi people must also learn how to follow the rules and drive in lanes. People must learn to respect policemen and police women,' he said.
The home minister heaped praises on the Delhi Police, paramilitary forces and police forces drawn from different states for the 'stupendous job' of providing flawless security during event.
'Nothing can compensate for the hours put in by police men and women. They stand on roads for 12-14 hours a day and that's not easy,' he said, and also acknowledged that police behaviour has also changed tremendously.
'They are far more polite now and perform their duty with a smile. This must not change,' he said.
