Phadkar XI, Manjrekar XI score convincing victories

Mumbai, Oct 29 (PTI) Akarshit Gomel struck a defiant ton but failed to prevent his team Khandu Rangnekar XI from going down to Dattu Phadkar XI by five wickets in their first round league match of the 25th Sportstar Trophy Mumbai Cricket Association Under-19 selection trial tournament here today. Gomel, who leading his side, stayed put for a little over six hours, faced 283 balls and struck 12 fours and a six. But his team, trailing by 178 runs on the first innings, were shot out for 255 in the second innings. After a shaky start, Phadkar XI reached the target in the last ball of the 22nd over to gain five points from the match. In the second league match, 11-time champion Vijay Manjrekar XI scored a resounding eight-wicket win over Vijay Merchant XI to gain five points. Left arm spinner Aditya Dhumal and off-spinner Pratik Gawli shared six wickets equally with Dhumal taking his tally of wickets to eight in the match. Brief scores: Khandu Rangnekar XI: 121 and 255 in 92.2 overs (Akarshit Gomel 124 n.o., P Prabhu 40, R Sharma 38; Mairaj Khan 3/63) lost to Dattu Phadkar XI: 299 and 80/5. Vijay Merchant XI: 191 and 144 (Akhil Rajput 35, Neelkanth Parab 44; Aditya Dhumal 3/33, Pratik Gawli 3/31) lost to Vijay Manjrekar XI: 277 and 61/2 (Akhil Herwadkar 38 n.o.).
