Ali Bacher signatory for CAB blood donation camp

To commemorate Sir Frank Worrell's gesture of donating blood to injured Indian skipper Nari Contractor at Barbados in 1962, the CAB will celebrate this year's Frank Worrell Day by organising a blood donation camp on its foundation day on February 3.

This time round, Dr Ali Bacher has volunteered to sign the certificates for the donors. Last year, Mike Brearley was the signatory for the annual event.

On India's 1962 West Indies tour, Contractor was hit on the head off a Charlie Griffith snorter at Barbados. The Indian captain needed a considerable amount of blood for survival. His Windies counterpart Sir Frank took the initiative and players of both the teams donated blood for Contractor.

To pay tribute to Sir Frank for his gesture, the CAB has been organising a blood donation camp at the Eden Gardens routinely every year since 1981, recalled CAB joint-secretary Biswarup Dey on Friday on the sidelines of the announcement at Eden.
