Mahindra hold edge against lowly AI in Mumbai Derby

Mumbai, Mar 8 (PTI) Strong title contenders Mahindra United start as clear favourites in their 15th round I-League clash against fellow-Mumbai rivals Air India at the Cooperage football ground here tomorrow. Mahindra, lying second in the table with 25 points behind leaders Dempo SC of Goa (29), are entering the clash with their morale sky-high following a 4-1 rout of Churchill Brothers in their opening away second leg match. The emphatic win over former winners Churchill enabled the David Booth-coached Mahindra to end their run of three winless games and they would now be looking to grab all three points in this Mumbai Derby. Mahindra, who had dropped points in their last two home fixtures, would be determined to maintain the winning momentum against the airmen who were thrashed 4-0 in their first leg clash. On the other hand AI, who drew their 14th round clash with cellar outfit Sporting Clube de Goa, are striving to stay afloat and avoid relegation. The local airmen, lying a lowly 11th, would require all their defensive skills to keep their strong rivals at bay and end with at least with one point to boost their current tally (14) They would be hoping that Mahindra, who have won only four out of their nine matches at the Cooperage this season, would continue to struggle for a win here.
