New Delhi, Apr 3 (PTI) Youngsters Mallika Bhandarkar and Avik Das will carry India''s medal hopes in the girls and boys categories of table tennis at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore from August 21-26. Bhandarkar and Das made the grade on the basis of their good performance in the ongoing Continental Qualification Event for Asia in Bangkok, Thailand. Bhandarkar beat G Yulia of Kazakhstan 7-11 11-6 11-5 11-7 11-5 to enter semifinal of the girls singles, while compatriot Das got the better of Molarajabi Ali Reza of Iran 11-9 11-8 18-20 7-11 11-4 11-7 in a long-drawn boys quarterfinal. Bhandarkar now plays Kim Song of DPR Korea and Das will take on another Korean Kwang Song in their respective final-four matches, a Table Tennis Federation of India release said today. The top four finishers of the tournament qualify directly for the Youth Olympic Games.
