Cabinet nod to wrestler Gulia''s appointment as DSP

Chandigarh, Apr 27 (PTI) Haryana state cabinet today gave its approval to the appointment of international wrestler Ramesh Kumar Gulia for the post of DSP under sports quota in state police. As per provision to sub-rule (1) of Rule 6 Haryana Police Service Rules, 2008, six per cent of total posts of DSP are reserved for outstanding sports persons of Haryana who win a gold, silver or bronze medals in Olympic Games or those sports persons who bring extra ordinary laurels to the state. The DGP Haryana had recommended that Ramesh Kumar Gulia, resident of Purkhas district Sonipat should be appointed as direct DSP under the sports quota, since he is an outstanding wrestler of international fame and has brought laurels for the country by winning bronze medal in the World Wrestling Championship recently held in Denmark. At present, three posts of DSP meant for sports quota are lying vacant. The cabinet met here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, an official release said.
