MCD's tax demand stuck in Court

New Delhi, May 1 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) demand for property tax dues from the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) for the use of Ferozeshah Kotla grounds has just got in a bit of a tangle. The civic body had asked DDCA to submit its property tax dues of over Rs 91 lakh one week after the receipt of notice, which was issued on April 23. It had threatened DDCA in the notice that failure to pay the dues in time would mean the property will be attached and auctioned off to recover the money. However, DDCA' s appeal for exemption from paying property tax in the High Court has given it a reprieve. On Friday, the case was adjourned and the Court will now hear the case on Tuesday. "We will have to wait till Tuesday," said Deep Mathur, Director, Press Information in MCD. The DDCA has been contesting that they should be given exemption as they are involved in promoting sports.

It should be noted that the cricket body hasn't paid any property tax since 1997.
