Rudderless, DSA gropes in the dark

New Delhi, May 26 -- If the state of affairs in the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) is an indication, football in the Capital is not in safe hands. Sample this. There hasn't been an Annual General Body meeting in two years. The Divisional League, which was postponed last year for "random" reasons, is being held this year. What's more, with no one to approve and sanction budgets for organising tournaments or sending teams for championships, there is no account of how funds are being used. "How can you send teams out without the permission of the managing committee? They first cancelled the 2009 Division League and are now organising it this year at their convenience," an executive committee member told HT. The official alleged that the DSA hadn't conducted a managing committee meeting for a while. "Neither are they holding an AGM, which approves the budget, nor is the managing committee meeting. There is no control over the flow of money in DSA, it's a total mess," he said. N.K. Bhatia, secretary general of DSA, refuted the allegations. "The AGM couldn't be held as last year as tournaments like the Durand Cup, Nehru Cup kept us busy. "Besides, most of the time, nobody turns up for the managing committee meeting. You can't blame us."

In addition to the lack of grounds, some players had to write their exams in December, so we conducted the Senior Division League first and slotted the 'A' and 'B' Division Leagues for May. Hopefully, the 2010 League will take place in August," he said.
