Adebayor told to "remain professional" by Manchester City

London, Aug 28(ANI): Manchester City football administrator, Brian Marwood, has told 'disgruntled' striker Emmanuel Adebayor that he is contracted to the club, and must stay and fight for his place.

Adebayor, signed for 25 million pounds from Arsenal last year, wants to quit the club after being left out of the opening Premier League games.

However, Marwood said: "It's straightforward. A lot of these players need to understand and realize they are contracted to their football club. They have to fight for their place."

"What we are trying to create is a very competitive environment at Manchester City. Emmanuel is no different to Shay Given, or to other players in the squad who want to be playing," The Sun quoted Marwood, as saying.

"We feel if we are to have a successful season we need to have depth in our squad and need to be able to cope with the amount of games we are going to play. It's not as if he hasn't played. He's featured in a few games already. Any player at the club is salaried, contracted and has obligations," he added.

Earlier, Adebayor had voiced his concerns over his starts being limited this season after being named on the substitutes' bench for City's first two Premier League games.

"If you're in a team and you're not playing, and there is a team that comes in for me, then I will definitely be on my way out because I'm a footballer and I love playing," he had said. (ANI)
