Factfile on the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee's defence against media charges of extravagant expenditure.
Media charges:
* A toilet paper roll bought by OC for Rs.3,750.
* Treadmills hired at Rs.9 lakh each.
* Washing machines and computers purchased in huge numbers without any account.
* Normal air-conditioners purchased for Rs.4 lakh each.
OC's defence:
* Toilet paper: A box of 100 rolls costs Rs.3,750.
* Treadmills: It was a propsal for high-end treadmills and not yet finalised. They cost in the range of $60,000-$75,000 and the overlay vendors qouted Rs.9 lakh as rent, that also includes the cost of trainers and other add-ons. The rent is one third of the price charged at other major sporting events. The OC has now decided to buy the treadmills as a legacy of the Games.
* Did not order any washing machines or computers.
* Air-conditioners: The air-conditioners are if 11 tonnes and the price includes operational costs like grills, cables, support and power backup.
