Spain's Rafa Nadal and Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, the top seeds at the U.S. Open, will open their tournament's during Tuesday's night session while Briton Andy Murray will have to cool his heels for another day.

World number one Nadal will begin his quest to win the one grand slam title that has eluded him when he faces Russia's Teymuraz Gabashvili inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Wozniaki, riding the crest of a wave after reaching the final at Flushing Meadows last year and winning three lead-up events this month, starts her campaign against American wildcard recipient Chelsey Gullickson.

"I know who I'm playing and I think I've played her in the juniors but I haven't really thought about tactics or anything yet," Wozniacki said.

Serbia's Novak Djokovic and Jelena Jankovic, both former finalists in New York, will join Russia's Maria Sharapova in the daytime centre court program.

Jelena Jankovic faces Romania's Simona Halep while Djokovic tackles his countryman Viktor Troicki. Sharapova, the champion in 2006 starting to get back to her best after a shoulder problem, plays Australia's Jarmila Groth first up.

Fourth seed Murray is not due to play his opening match until Wednesday. His first round opponent is Lukas Lacko of Slovakia, ranked 71st in the world.
