CVC examining CWG construction works of over Rs 2400 crore

New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) The Central Vigilance Commission is examining 16 construction works having estimated cost of over Rs 2,450 crore for the Commonwealth Games. The Commission in an RTI reply to activist S C Agarwal said Chief Technical Examination Officer (CTEO) of the Commission has conducted "intensive examination" of 16 works related to Commonwealth Games but added they were done in a routine manner. Besides number of complaints of alleged corruption have been received by it which are under different stages of investigations, the Commission said. The estimated cost of the work examined by the CTEO is Rs 2477.22 crore, the reply said. Some major works examined by the anti-corruption watchdog include much criticised Barapulla Nala connecting Sarai Kale Khan with main venue Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, construction work at Rajaram Kohli Marg, Flyover at Naraina T point among others. The Commission said it has received number of complaints including one against A K Jain, Chief Engineer CPWD for alleged irregularity in the tendering process for LED display board meant for MCD National Stadium. The CVC said the complaints include alleged irregularities in construction of Siri Fort stadium, purchase of air-conditioners for DDA flats, construction of road under bridge in Seva Nagar, street lighting in the national capital done by MCD in which CBI report is awaited and construction of bus shelters. The CVC has informed the Delhi Government that it would "not pursue" the matter further in the purchase of "secure communication network" for the Games. "In addition, complaints regarding purchase of Medical Equipment for Commonwealth Games, selection of tainted project officers for CWG, proposal for production of Vehicle Graphics, standees, banners and signages for Queen''s Baton Relay, 2010 Delhi have been sent to GNCTD for necessary action at their end," the reply from CVC said.
