Chandigarh Golf Club will organise the second tournament in the Chandigarh Golf Club Junior Golf Championship series on October 25. The first tournament in the series was played on September 27 and a total of five tournaments will be played during the series. The tournament is open to junior golfers aged between 6-18 years with a total of four categories namely below ten years (Category D), 11-12 years (Category C), 13-15 years (Category B) and 16-18 years (Category A).
"The tournament will be played on a Gross basis. This is the second tournament of the series and it will be played in four categories. Chandigarh Golf Club wants to promote junior golf and that's why we started this series. The overall prize for the Player of the Series in each category will be calculated on the points gained through the season. Players need to play at least three tournaments to be eligible for the prizes," said Capt. GS Ghuman, Chairman, CGC Tournaments, while addressing a press conference at Chandigarh Golf Club.
Each participant will also be given a participation certificate and a prize distribution ceremony will also be held after each competition. "We have sent invites to 40 golf clubs in India and we expect a response from cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Patiala, Ambala, New Delhi and Mumbai. All this clubs are interested in sending their players and we are expecting a tough competition in the series," said Ajay Gujral, joint director of Chandigarh Golf Club Academy. With more than 100 young golfers expected to take part in the championship, Chandigarh will see a lot of competition.
Officials are expecting a tough competition. "Chandigarh Golf Club is keen to promote junior golf and we are organising these tournaments for that purpose. We are targeting 2016 Olympics as we want to train young golfers for that. Chandigarh has seen the emergence of golfers like Jeev Milkha Singh and we want more and more young golfers to perform well," said HS Kang, captain of CGC. Interested players can give their names to Chandigarh Golf Club office by October 22.
