Haryana gears up to honour CWG athletes Monday

Chandigarh, Oct 31 (IANS) The Haryana government has made elaborate arrangements in Sonepat district to felicitate the Commonwealth Games (CWG) participants and medallists at the 'Chak de Haryana - Chak de India' function Monday.

'There is huge enthusiasm in people and we are expecting a large number of spectators from across Haryana. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda will be the chief guest at the rally,' a government spokesperson said here Sunday.

'A big LCD screen would be put up. Players will come along with their families to attend this function,' he added.

Besides, all the Arjuna Award winners and the Bhim awardees from Haryana would also attend the function.

All CWG participants from the state will be awarded Rs.2 lakh each. Players who won gold, silver and bronze medals would be awarded Rs.15 lakh, Rs.10 lakh and Rs.7 lakh respectively.

Besides, each gold medal winner will get a Maruti SX-4 car worth over Rs.8 lakh, silver medal winners would get Maruti Swift Desire worth Rs.6 lakh and bronze medal winners would get a Wagon-R worth Rs.3.5 lakh.

Athletes from Haryana had bagged 32 medals, raising India's medal tally to 101 in the Oct 3-14 Games. India ranked second behind Australia in the medals tally.
