Red and yellow galore after brawl in Bulgarian derby

Tue, Oct 26 10 02:18 AM

The Bulgarian league match between champions Litex Lovech and leaders Levski Sofia on Monday was interrupted for more than five minutes due to an onfield brawl involving almost every player.

Referee Stanislav Todorov showed two red and five yellow cards to calm the first-half situation in a highly-anticipated match that quickly generated into a festival of bad behaviour.

Litex defender Plamen Nikolov and Levski's Macedonian midfielder Darko Tasevski were the players sent off.

Levski's Veselin Minev was hit by a plastic bottle thrown from the stands but was able to continue playing. He was among the five players who were booked.

Levski took the lead after 11 minutes thanks to French striker Garra Dembele's 14th league goal this season while Hristo Yanev equalised after half an hour from a free kick.

The teams were drawing 1-1 with about 15 minutes to go in the second half.
