Kochi, Nov 30 (PTI) Joby Mathew, who bagged a silver in the Men''s Singles of the Upper Standing category of the just concluded International Badminton Para Olympic Championship at Tel Aviv, today said it was encouragement from people of the state which had motivated him to do well. The championship concluded on November 27. Mathew, who arrived at the airport here here along with Neeraj George Baby of Aluva who won a bronze in Men''s doubles in Lower standing category of Badminton championship, told reporters he was busy preparing for International Arm Wrestling championship, to be held in Ukraine in 2011. They were accorded a rousing reception by the Sports Council office bearers and elected representatives including A M Yousef MLA and Aluva municipal chairman M T Jacob. Jobby Mathew, a talented sportsman in many disciplines, represented India in the Paralympic Badminton Championship for the first time and bagged a silver on debut. Joby had won gold in the general category during the 2008 World Championship in Spain, besides seven world medals for arm-wrestling in National and International championships. Neeraj George Baby, a Post Graduate in Bio Technology from England has his leg amputated due to cancer. Using Crutches, Neeraj clinched the Bronze in Men''s Doubles in Lower Standing Category of the Championship. He had won many National Championships and was the winner in International Championship in Bangalore in 2007. Though he qualified for many International Championships, he could not participate in any of them due to lack of sponsors, Neeraj said.
