Haryana players doing well due to new Sports Policy: Cong MP

Jullana (Haryana), Nov 30 (PTI) Congress MP from Rohtak Deepender Singh Hooda today said that the success of Haryana''s sportspersons in recent Asian Games and Commonwealth Games is because of the new Sports Policy and other incentives of the State Government. Speaking at a function organised at village Akalgarh near here to honour Kaptan Singh, a member of Indian Kabaddi team, which won gold medal in Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, the minister said that new sporting talents are emerging as the result of Sports Policy implemented by the Haryana Government. He said any talented player in any part of the state would not have to make any compromise even if his/her economic condition was not good as the state government was providing all help. He also added that a function would be organised by the state government to honour the medal winners of the Asian Games. Hooda said that today Haryana has emerged prominently on the world sports map as a result of better performance of players at international level. He announced a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh for Kaptan Singh and Rs 51 lakh for the development of his native village. Hooda also said that in view of the stellar performance of the players at the CWG and the Asian Games, a sports university in the state has become the need of the hour. Cash incentives, reservation in jobs, opening of academies and training facilities in rural areas has also helped in promotion of sporting activities in the state, he said.
