Perinthalmanna (Kerala), Nov 11 (PTI) Riding on opener V A Jagadeesh''s unbeaten 98, Kerala managed to take the first innings lead against Jammu and Kashmir on the second day of their Ranji Trophy plate league match here today. In reply to J&K''s first innings score of 173, Kerala reached 184 for one in their first innings before rain shortened day two''s play. Jagadeesh not only scored an unbeaten 98 but also shared an unbroken 159-run second wicket stand with stand-in-captain Robert Fernandez (65 not out) to take his team to a comfortable position. Resuming at their overnight score of 19 for no loss, Kerala lost opener A M Hegde (16), who could only add five runs to his previous day''s score of 11, early. Other overnight batsman in Jagadeesh, who resumed at a personal score of 8, however went on to hit a 147-ball unbeaten 98 runs studded with 15 fours and a six. Fernandez, who is captaining the side in this match in the absence of regular skipper Raiphy Vincent Gomes, ably supported Jagadeesh, as he struck eight boundaries, facing 151 balls to remain unbeaten on 65 at the end of the day. Fernandez and Jagadeesh played slowly but steadily and did not face much problems in negotiating the J&K bowlers. Brief scores: JK, 1st Innings: 173 Kerala, 1st Innings: 184 for 1 (V A Jagadeesh 98 not out, Robert Fernandez not out 65, A Nabi 1/53).
