Kolkata, Dec 6 (PTI) Karnataka XI and Punjab Sports today stormed into the quarter-finals of the Coal India 115th All India Beighton Cup hockey tournament here. While Karnataka XI blanked Eastern Railway Sports Association (ERSA) 4-0, Punjab Sports thrashed BNR 3-0 in their respective matches at the Sports Authority of India artificial turf here. Nitin struck back-to-back goals in the 64th and 68th minutes, while M B Aiyappa (12th) and Muddappa (61st) slammed scored one each for Karnataka. In the other match of the day, Gagandeep Singh scored as early as in the first minute and then doubled his account, converting a penalty corner in the 56th minute in Punjab''s win over BNR. Pawan Bassi (8th) was the other goalscorer for Punjab. Two more teams will make the last eight round tomorrow. Mumbai XI will face SAI (Eastern Zone), while Eastern Railway will lock horns with Port Trust in tomorrow''s fixtures. Reigning champions Indian Oil, runners-up South-Central Railway, CESC and Air India have been given direct entry into the quarterfinal round, which will be a league format with eight teams divided into two groups.
