Kieswetter sets up series clean sweep for England

England's Craig Kieswetter celebrates after he scored a century against Bangladesh during the 3rd one-day...

Published Fri, Mar 05 10 06:13 PM

Opener Craig Kieswetter struck his maiden one-day century for England who romped to a 45-run victory over Bangladesh on Friday to win the one-day series 3-0.

South African-born Kieswetter, who completed his four-year qualification process last month and was added to the one-day squad after impressing for the England Lions, blasted 107 for the tourists who piled up an imposing 284 for five. Seamer Tim Bresnan then took four wickets as Bangladesh were restricted to 239 for nine.

Chasing a daunting total, Bangladesh lost opener Tamim Iqbal from the third ball but were in contention for a first win over England until a dubious lbw decision against skipper Shakib Al Hasan derailed their innings.

After the untimely dismissal of two set batsmen Aftab Ahmed (46) and Mushfiqur Rahim (40), Shakib was slowly rebuilding the innings when he was given out lbw off Kevin Pietersen to a delivery that pitched outside the off stump and was turning away.

Before Shakib departed for a run-a-ball 38, Bangladesh were comfortably placed at 162 for four with more than 16 overs and a batting powerplay left in their innings.

Bresnan and off-spinner Graeme Swann (2-38) then made quick work of the lower order as Bangladesh's hopes fell away.

Earlier, after opting to bowl first, Bangladesh's spinners did a good job to contain England until the last 10 overs when the tourists thumped 107 runs.

Kieswetter, playing only his third one-day international, led the way by blasting nine fours and three sixes in his hundred.

Eion Morgan, who cracked an unbeaten century in the previous game, chipped in with 36 and Luke Wright added 32 off only 13 balls.

John Terry 'tried to pick up a blonde model at Wayne Bridge's party'

Published>Fri, Mar 05 10 04:36 PM

London, March 5 (ANI): John Terry tried to pick up a blonde Russian model under her lover's nose at a farewell party for team-mate Wayne Bridge, it has been revealed.

The shamed soccer star's made a move on billionaire heiress Nicole Sconciaforni, 26, just months before Terry had an affair with Bridge's ex-girlfriend.

However, the move sparked an ugly scuffle in front of friends including Frank Lampard and Sugababe singer Amelle Berrabah.

Nicole and her boyfriend then had a row, which led to the end of their relationship.

Terry's approach - including asking Nicole to spend the night with him - came during a leaving party for Chelsea team-mate Bridge in the Whisky Mist nightclub in Mayfair, London, in January last year.

Players organised the bash to say farewell to Bridge on his switch to Manchester City.

After a meal, the WAGs briefly joined their partners at the club.

"John was drunk and pushy. As soon as the women left it was party time. Nicole looked ravishing. He moved to her table and leant close to talk. He looked like a lost puppy, gazing in her eyes. It was obvious what he wanted, It was very touchy-feely," the Mirror quoted a witness as saying.

"They were all over each other.

"Nicole's fella warned JT to back off. Then it escalated. Glasses were smashed. There was pushing.

"The couple then began rowing and he was asked to leave. Terry left soon after," the witness added. (ANI)

Flower defends England medical staff despite mounting injury worries

Published>Fri, Mar 05 10 04:16 PM

Chittagong, Mar 5(ANI): England coach Andy Flower has defended his medical staff despite a growing injury crisis in the team's fast bowling department.

The England team is already without James Anderson, who was rested for the tour of Bangladesh after a knee problem. While, Stuart Broad and Graham Onions are undergoing MRI scans on lower back problems.

"The pace of the game in all three formats means there is a lot of stress on bodies. I've heard criticism of the preparation, but I trust our medical staff," The Sun quoted Flower, as saying.

"You can't get away from injuries to fast bowlers. That's the nature of their job," he added.

Ryan Sidebottom was the latest to join the list after he was ruled out of the test series against Bangladesh due to a thigh injury.

He has played just six Tests out of a possible 22 since 2008, but Flower refuses to give up on the 32-year-old.

"As long as he's bowling well we will always give him another chance," Flower said.

Meanwhile, Steven Finn and Tim Bresnan have been drafted into the Test squad as cover for Broad and Sidebottom. (ANI)

Warne sells holiday pad

Published>Fri, Mar 05 10 03:50 PM

Melbourne, Mar. 5 (ANI): Shane and Simone Warne have put their holiday house up for sale and are hoping to pocket about two million dollars.

The couple bought the house at Arthurs Seat on the Mornington Peninsula for about 1.3 million dollars two years ago and spent a year renovating and adding a pool, the Daily Telegraph reports.

"We pretty much gutted the whole house after we bought it. It's brand new inside and has great gardens and a new pool," it quoted Simone Warne, as saying.

But with so many projects competing for their attention, the Warnes said they were not spending enough time at the four-bedroom house to justify keeping it.

Set on just over an acre, the house looks over Port Phillip Bay, has a 15m-long vanishing edge pool, a tennis court and a granny flat.

Despite pouring thousands of dollars into the property, it seems the Warnes weren't planning to do much cooking during their getaways.n oven, looking barely used, is tucked into the corner of what is otherwise a chic modern kitchen.

Simone said that up until the past few months they had used the house extensively.

"I love the house. The privacy, the views, the quietness of it. It's an hour from Melbourne. You could go down there and you could be anywhere in the world when you are up there looking over the mountain down to Dromana and back to the city and over the bay."

The pair has no immediate plans to buy a new holiday house.

"But never say never," Simone said.

Estate agent Jonathan Dixon, of JP Dixon Real Estate, said the house is in one of Arthurs Seat's most sought after areas and there had already been interest from residents living in the rthurs Seat area. (ANI)

Tiger Woods' negative ratings up 160pc since last summer

Published>Fri, Mar 05 10 03:46 PM

New York, March 5 (ANI): Tiger Woods' fans are still cold to the golfer even as his wife Elin Nordegren reportedly plans to return home.

A survey of 1,800 consumers by Q Scores revealed Woods' negative ratings have leaped 160 per cent since last summer so much so that he is the most negatively viewed athlete since Kobe Bryant faced rape accusations.

According to Q scores, the golfer's ratings have put him in the league of Jerry Springer and Lil' Kim. Last summer Paul McCartney and Alicia Keyes were his "negative" neighbours.

"There were significant declines in his appeal across every demographic, from younger adults to upper income and white collar households, which typically are into the sport of golf," the New York Daily News quoted Henry Schafer, lead researcher at Q Scores, as saying.

Woods' latest Positive Q score dipped to 16 in the recent weeks from 28 last summer. This means only 16 per cent of respondents named him as favourite.

His Negative Q score skyrocketed to 50 from 19 last summer, which means nearly 50 per cent of respondents who recognised his name rated him negatively.

While pointing out that Bryant is only 60 per cent back after six years and an NBA championship, Schafer said it could take something big for Woods to turn the public mood in his favour.

He said: "It takes a while. Obviously in golf Tiger has more opportunities to win and show he's a champion. But he took a pretty big hit."

Q Scores has been measuring celebrity star power for casting agents, advertisers and Fortune 500 companies for five decades. (ANI)
