Karachi, Mar 18 (PTI) Young Pakistani batsman Umar Akmal had a genuine lower back injury during the Australia tour, according to his manager Mark Raisbeck. Some media reports and the Pakistani team management had claimed that Umar was malingering since his elder brother Kamran was dropped from the team. However Mark Raisbeck claims that Umar was genuinely injured at that time. "Umar had a genuine issue with his lower back during the series against Australia. Umar received treatment and advice through the correct channels with the Pakistan team''s medical staff and a subsequent specialist. This matter was a medical and fitness related issue," his manager told Pakpassion.net website. Umar said he wants to forget the matter. "I am very keen to put this matter behind me and concentrate solely on playing cricket for Pakistan. My sole focus is preparing to retain the T20 World Cup with Pakistan in May," he said. Abdul Raquib, manager on the Australian tour, had also mentioned the incident before the PCB inquiry committee, formed to probe into the team''s poor performance. The Board subsequently fined Umar two million rupees for giving unauthorised statements in Australia . Umar has been Pakistan''s top batsman in the last few months, scoring a century on his Test debut in New Zealand and carries a Test average of 48.16 and 41 in ODIs.
