New Delhi, April 29 -- A top Indian shotgun shooter could face stringent punishment -possibly a ban -for reporting sick during the ISSF World Cup at Beijing, which concluded on April 25. Top trap marksman, Anirudh Singh, who is in the core group for the 2010 Commonwealth Games and ranks among the top three in the country, is in the eye of a storm for staying in his hotel room on competition day "without informing the officials accompanying the contingent". The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) acting president, Avtar Singh Sethi, said a three-member disciplinary committee had been constituted to go into the issue. "I will be in the committee in the capacity of chairman. Some punishment will definitely be handed out.he could even be banned. We will let you know in the next 2-3 days," Sethi told HT. National coach, Sunny Thomas, who had accompanied the team to Beijing, said foreign coach, Marcello Dradi, of Italy, was unhappy with the shooter's conduct and had written to the NRAI. "When we reached the range, we were shocked to know that Anirudh had not reported for competition. On reaching the hotel, we found him resting in his room. "He told us that he had been vomiting and had seen a doctor," said Thomas. "I told him, 'the government is spending so much on you people and you don't even care to inform us'. I have taken so many shooters to hospital when they have fallen sick. It's part of our job. He could have informed me even if it was past midnight." Anirudh was the only shooter among 29 participants who did not start in the competition. When contacted, Anirudh said he had not been informed about a disciplinary committee. "No one has informed me. I was sick and I went to see the doctor, as simple as that. Why would I train in Patiala for 10 days if I didn't intend to compete in Beijing? I was suffering from acidity during the camp in Patiala and it aggravated in Beijing," he said.
