Team India arrive in Barbados

Published Tue, May 04 10 10:26 PM

Bridgetown (Barbados), May 4 (PTI) Indian team, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, today arrived here with their sights firmly set on the Super Eight stage after authoritative performance in the first phase of Twenty20 World Cup ensured they had two wins under the belt. The team, which easily brushed aside both Afghanistan and South Africa, face sterner tests when they play second placed team of Group B, possibly Sri Lanka, on May 6 at Kensington Oval. After their arrival, Indian think tank gave the players a chance to recharge their batteries by scheduling an optional practice session. Gautam Gambhir, who is recovering from a stomach bug, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Yusuf Pathan, Suresh Raina and Vinay Kumar made most of the light training session under the supervision of coach Gary Kirsten. Karthik has played one match in this tournament in place of Gambhir and Pathan could not make the most of being sent in to bat at number five against South Africa, scoring 11 during his seven-ball stay at the crease. India''s campaign here will unfold on a Kensington Oval pitch that is expected to offer more pace and bounce than the surface at the Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia. With a three-day gap, India have an opportunity of pacing their preparations appropriately and building up the momentum. PTI JH DB
