Ghana downs Serbia 1-0

Pretoria, June 13 (DPA) Asamoah Gyan coolly converted a penalty kick just five minutes from time to hand Ghana a precious 1-0 win over 10-man Serbia in Sunday's Group D World Cup football match at Pretoria's Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Despite the African team being the youngest in the tournament, it was the Europeans who turned out to be the most naive on the day, gifting Ghana with a one-man advantage after Aleksander Lukovic was sent off in the 74th minute, and conceding a penalty in the 83rd after Dravko Kuzmanovic handled the ball in his own area.

Gyan hit from the spot and nearly doubled his tally in extra time but hit the right post on a counter attack.
