Top FA board member wants Capello to stay on as England manager

London, June 30(ANI): England manager Fabio Capello still enjoys the support of a top Football Association (FA) board member, despite the Three Lions' shattering Round of 16 exit from the World Cup.

Capello has made his intentions clear about staying on with England, but he has been told to wait for two weeks to find if the FA wants him to carry on.

Phil Gartside, a top FA board member and pal of Dave Richards -the Club England Chairman who has the biggest say on Capello's future- has pledged his support for the manager.

"I'm saying Capello is the right man for the job. He has only lost one game. That is my opinion. I don't know that there's a decision to be made, is there? He's got a contract and that's it," The Sun quoted Gartside, as saying.

"It's my opinion he should carry on. Yes, I get on very well with Dave Richards, but I'm not speaking on anyone else's behalf. Personally, I don't think his future is up in the air. I don't know the outcome," he added.

England was eliminated from the tournament after Germany thrashed them 4-1 in Sunday's Round of 16 match in Bloemfontein.

According to reports, Capello could be axed from his role.

However, the Italian is adamant that he wants to see the England job through to Euro 2012.

Capello is said to be "more angry, more determined and more focused" to build a successful England team and believes it can be done.

He also wants "revenge" for the fiasco in South Africa and to prove he is the right man to lead England. (ANI)
