Waqar's request for friendly pitches in England rejected

Karachi, July 3 (ANI): Pakistan cricket coach Waqar Younis' request to prepare pitches that would help his team, particularly the spinners, has been rejected by Lord's curators, the venue for the first Test between Pakistan and Australia starting July 13.

Waqar met the curators soon after he arrived in London for an exhaustive tour, however, he was told that he can not force the curators to prepare a certain type of strip.

"They told Waqar that not even the England captain or the team management can tell the curator what sort of track they want for a particular match," The News quoted sources, privy to the issue, as saying.

Sources said that Waqar and the Pakistan team management believes that since it was their 'home' series, they have the right to choose tracks that suited their team.

Pakistan will begin the marathon tour with back-to-back Twenty20 Internationals against Australia at Edgbaston on July 5 and 6, and would then take on Australia in a two match Test series.

The second Test would be played at Headingley, Leeds. (ANI)
